Youth Club of Manora stunned Calangute Association in the second match of the Goa Professional League played at Duler Stadium on Sunday evening. U-20 forward Sweden Barbosa scored the only goal of the game in the 13th minute.
Moises D’Sa, Lenstan Afonso and Godfrey Mascarenhas were amongst the few new faces in the Beachside club’s starting XI. Whereas defender Joywin Carneiro along with Aniston Fernandes and Jayson Lucas were leading the young pack of Manora.
The first few minutes saw drab football from both ends, as the Calangute Association and YC Manora players struggled to keep the ball. However, the South Goan side, who did not look that sharp, surprised the opponents in the 13th minute. Winger Nicklas Noronha made a swift run on the flank and went for glory from just inside the box. But, Calangute keeper Paramveer Singh managed to block his goalbound strike. However, Sweden Barbosa was on hand to score off the rebound and put Manora ahead.

A minute later, they had another glorious opportunity to double their lead. Forward Eldon Colaco darted inside the box and tried his luck. But, this time, Calangute custodian Paramveer made a diving effort to keep his side away from any further damage.
With an early goal, Manora braced themselves and came up with a few more raids on their rivals. In one such instance, Jouston Barbosa’s cross was nicely headed back to a well-placed Eldon in the box by Nicklas. However, the forward failed to keep his strike on target.
At the other end, Calangute took half an hour to create their first potent chance of the match. Manora's defence completely failed to clear a long throw-in from Constancio Rodrigues, leading to a chance for Calangute to score the equalizer. But, their forward failed to capitalize from point-blank range.
Soon after, Manora had another opportunity to inflate their lead in the 38th minute. Sweden found Elden with a superb pass, who easily overlapped Calangute’s last man Lenstan. However, he blasted his shot wide of the target with just the keeper to beat.

Down by a goal, Calangute came out stronger in the second half and tried to take control of the match. They also had a great chance to make it all square in the 51st minute. Their forward got control of the free ball at the top of the box. However, his powerful shot sailed over the crossbar.
Manora’s Sweden then nearly scored his second in the 66th minute when he found himself with just the keeper to beat. But, Calangute goalkeeper Paramveer came off his line to thwart the Manora forward in a one-on-one situation.
Calangute also had one last chance to equalize in the last quarter of the match. Godfray tried to find his teammate Calvin Baretto with a long ball. However, Manora keeper Brodman Dongarkar came out of the box to clear the danger and assure his side all three points.
