GPL 2019-20: Panjim Footballers edge Sesa in thrilling contest

Panjim Footballers won a seven goal thriller against Sesa FA with a 4-3 win in the Goa Professional League match played at Sirsaim Ground, on Sunday. Llyod Cardozo (36’, 39’) scored a double while Joyson Gauncar (59’) and Chandan Gawas (19) were the other goal getters for Panjim. Sesa FA scored through Richard (50), Kunal Salgoacar (65) and Stephen Colaco (90). Panjim Footballers made three changes from the side that played against Sporting Clube de Goa. Skipper Kunal Kundaikar was out on account of a double booking while U20 Lakesh Gawas and Mahesh Kumar were named as the substitutes. Goalkeeper Preston Rego who celebrated his birthday today was rewarded with the captain's armband. Filton D'Cunha, Akash Sanadi and U20 Krishna Gawas were named in the playing 11 in place of the above. [KH_ADWORDS type="3" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] The teams started the match on equal footings but Panjim were the first to test the opponents as in the fifth minute, a long ranged shot by Joyson was marked by a diving save from SFA keeper Sapam. Panjim Footballers, the Sporting Clube de Goa academy side, soon took the lead in the 19th minute when Alston Camotio made the initial spadework before setting up Chandan Gawas, who put the ball at the back of the net to make it 1-0. Sesa FA tried their best to get the equaliser but Panjim Footballers' keeper was at his best as he brilliantly denied Sesa FA's Shajam's long range effort. At the other end, Panjim scored two quick goals to pile further misery over the academy boys. Llyod scored the second with a beautiful solo goal which he chipped the ball over the keeper and then in the 39th minute the striker makes the announcer read his name once again as he convert's a Chandan Gawas' cross. Chandan made a run on the right flank and on seeing Llyod in the right position, played the ball to the striker, who graced the delivery by putting behind the net, 3-0. SFA came close to scoring in the 40th minute when Ben Johnson made a run through the defense to create a one on one opportunity against the keeper, but his chip brushed off the side netting. Crossing over, Sesa FA made a good substitution when their coach replaced Ben with Kunal Salgaonkar who made an immediate impact as he was instrumental in their team's first goal. Kunal assisted to Richard on the right wing before the latter converted the goal. Sesa FA kept pressing but at the other end, Panjim scored their fourth goal through Joyson who capitalised on a Sesa FA defensive lapse. However, Sesa FA didn't give up as they kept pressing and soon scored another goal in the 65th minute through Kunal. In the 83rd minute, Panjim Footballers keeper Preston Rego came with yet another save to deny Myran who connected to a freekick but his header was safely collected. In the 88th minute, Richard crossed the ball into the box from a freekick opportunity. Melvin Lobo headed the ball just wide of the post. Another close call for SFA. Stephen finally scored for Sesa FA with a long range shot in th 90+ 1st minute. However, their efforts to level failed as the referee blew the final whistle.
