The century-old club has already shortlisted the names of 28 players for next season.
It has been less than 24 hours since East Bengal decided to sack head coach Khalid Jamil. Since the Red and Gold's exit from the Super Cup, it was practically only a matter of time till the news came out in broad daylight. But, Jamil's departure has resulted in a chain reaction inside the century-old club, fuelling speculation about several things in the upcoming season.
"It has been a miserable performance by Khalid Jamil. We have already sent a letter to him that we cannot continue with him at the present moment," said Kalyan Majumder in an official statement.
Ranjan Chowdhury will take charge at the team for a short period. Chowdhury has experience coaching West Bengal in the Santosh Trophy held earlier this year. However, Subhash Bhomwick will continue as the Technical Director and will have a huge role in choosing Jamil's replacement.
Jamil was criticized for the performance of East Bengal's foreign contingent last season
"I have the names of at least 23 coaches who have the A license. We will choose one of them from the list. There is no hurry,"- said Bhowmick to Anandabazar Patrika.
However, recent developments also suggest that ATK's assistant manager Bastab Roy is in pole position to land the job. "I am interested to work in the I-League. One of the I-League teams wants me as their coach. I have asked for a day to decide," he said.
When East Bengal appointed Jamil as their manager from Aizawl FC for a record fee, it was expected that he would bring an end to their misery in the top flight and lead them to the title. However, the tactician failed to repeat his performance from the earlier season and failed to win both the I-League and the Super Cup.

As Jamil's stint comes to an end, a smokescreen still looms over the future of club physio Miranda Garcia. The former Mohun Bagan physio was brought in as part of the backroom staff last year and Khel Now understands the physio is under the radar of a few ISL clubs as well as his former employers the Mariners.

Bhowmick's recent comments have fuelled speculation about the club possibly not retaining ace defender Eduardo Ferreira for the upcoming season. The Kolkata outfit's last campaign's foreign contingent included the likes of Willis Plaza (Dudu Omagbemi), Mahmud Al Amna, Katsumi Yusa, Bazie Armand (Khalid Aucho) and Ferreira. However, with Katsumi signing only for the I-League it is still not clear how many foreigners East Bengal will field in the upcoming Calcutta Football League.
