Mohun Bagan SG have been banned from AFC Competitions

Mohun Bagan SG were the first-ever Indian club to play the AFC Champions League Two Group stage, and they qualified for two consecutive times in the Asian competition. In the 2024-25 ACL Two season, they were drawn alongside Tractor, Ravshan, and Al-Wakrah. They played their first game against the Tajikistan side Ravshan and pulled a 0-0 draw at home, but then the mishap occurred.

Mohun Bagan SG refused to play their next fixture against Tractor because the club didn’t want to travel to Tabriz, Iran, for their scheduled game on 2nd October, 2024. At that time, there was political unrest and also security concerns in the region, and the Mariners decided that it was not safe for the team to travel.

They again qualified for the next 2025-26 ACL Two Group stage, where they were drawn with Sepahan, Ahal FC and Al-Hussein from Jordan. But again the same incident happened as they decided not to travel for their game against Sepahan on 24th September, 2025 and as a result, the AFC imposed a ban on Mohun Bagan and also fined the club.

FC Goa became the second club

FC Goa will now play in AFC Challenge League

For FC Goa they are one of the clubs that have featured in the ACL Two Group stage and have played all their group stage games. They had been drawn to Group D in the 2025-26 season, where they hosted Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr at home, and they also faced Al-Zawraa and Istiklol in their group stage matches.

Although they lost all the games with a -11 GD in their hand this was an immense experience for The Gaurs to represent India on that Asian stage.
