East Bengal won their 16 Durand Cup titles in 1951, 1952, 1956, 1960, 1967, 1970, 1972, 1978, 1982, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 2002, and 2004.
The first trophy came in very early, before Mohun Bagan’s first title in 1951, when they played with a very good side where they beat RAC on 22nd October, 1951, with a scoreline of 2-1, relying on Ahmed Khan’s and P. Venkatesh’s goals.
Then they again won the trophy in 1952 and 1956, but in 1960 East Bengal and Mohun Bagan were declared joint champions after the first final game between them ended in a draw on January 18, 1961, where Arun Ghosh & Amiya Banerjee scored for their respective sides.
Torchbearers last won the Asia’s oldest tournament in 2004 after beating Mohun Bagan as Chandan Das came up with a brace to help the team lift their 16th title, and now the stage is set for another Kolkata Derby final.
