Anwar Ali’s goal proved to be the icing on the cake.

East Bengal picked up their first win under Oscar Bruzon in style with a 4-0 thrashing of Bashundhara Kings in their second AFC Challenge League match. The Red & Gold Brigade dominated from the get-go, with Dimitrios Diamantakos giving his side the lead in the first minute itself.

Souvik Chakrabarti doubled the lead with a brilliant left-footed strike in the 20th minute before Nandhakumar Sekar made it 3-0 six minutes later. Anwar Ali scored his first East Bengal goal with a left-footed piledriver in the 34th minute, as East Bengal held onto that margin to get a big win. Here are the Player Ratings from the game.

Prabhsukhan Gill – 7.0

Gill made a few sharp saves to frustrate the Bangladeshi side but was fortunate to see multiple efforts hit the post. Made a big save late on to preserve his clean sheet.

Anwar Ali – 8.0

Anwar had arguably his best game for East Bengal. A sharp and proactive figure at right-back, cutting out a lot of attacks with his smart defending. Scored an amazing goal with his left foot and made a few vital challenges after reverting to a centre-back role too.

Hector Yuste – 6.5

Yuste was a reliable figure at the back in the first half, maintaining a sharp line and making some key challenges. Picked up a knock and had to be substituted early in the second half.

Hijazi Maher – 6.5

Hijazi showed a lot of energy and held together a pretty strong defensive shape for his side. Popped up in good positions to make key clearances to help them keep the clean sheet.

Lalchungnunga – 7.0

Nunga had a great start as he provided a brilliant assist for Diamantakos’ goal. A bit too aggressive at times, but he worked hard to help his side frustrate Bashundhara.

Souvik Chakrabarti – 7.5

Souvik held himself well against the intensity and pace of the game, winning some key duels and helping his side maintain control. Scored an amazing left-footed goal to cap off an impressive display.

Saul Crespo – 7.0

Crespo was more grounded in his role, opting to stay deeper in kicking off moves and allowing more freedom to Talal. Won many duels in midfield and helped them control the game precisely.

Madih Talal – 8.0

Talal thrived in the adventurous role and left the opposition players panting with his impressive movement. He picked up a nice pass for Nandhakumar’s goal and created a number of big chances.

Naorem Mahesh Singh – 5.5

Mahesh was involved in some nice moments but lacked his cutting-edge final product. Missed a huge scoring chance in the first half and couldn’t really nail his final passes that well.

Nandhakumar Sekar – 7.0

Nandhakumar finally came up with the goods in the final third, scoring a great goal after showing some clever movement. Helped out defensively and created some chances too.

Dimitrios Diamantakos – 7.5

Dimitrios continued his encouraging form with an excellent close-range strike to give his side the lead. Looked proactive with his movement in the first half. However, he was taken off at half-time.

Substitutes

Cleiton Silva – 5.5

Cleiton failed to replicate Dimi’s heroics in the second half. Fluffed a few goal-scoring chances and couldn’t show his ruthlessness in front of the goal.

Mohammad Rakip – 6.0

Rakip helped add some more energy to his side’s backline, even though he was bypassed by the opposition wingers at times.

PV Vishnu – 6.0

Involved in a few nice attacking moves, as he nailed his passes pretty well,

Jeakson Singh – N/R

Helped his side see out the win and clean sheet.

David Lalhlansanga – N/R

Couldn’t really get the end of anything big.
