It feels like Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has been a stalwart of Indian football forever. The shot-stopper, however, had to tough it out in India and abroad for his name to be etched in glory
Gurpreet has been a serial winner since the very beginning and has maintained his consistency when it comes to bagging winners’ medals; be it with East Bengal FC, Bengaluru FC, or India.
He might have won more trophies with East Bengal but he has the most honours donning the Indian national football team jersey.
In 2014 Gurpreet moved to Norwegian side Stabaek FC where he made only three appearances but managed to play in the prestigious UEFA Europa League. That makes him only one of the five players who have played professionally in Europe which includes legends like Bhaichung Bhutia and Sunil Chhetri.
But the veteran goal custodian boasts an impressive CV filled with individual and team honors throughout his career.

The Indian national team captain has led his side to quite a few trophies. His best performances have been for his country.
Gurpreet had an outstanding run of games between 2018 and 2023, especially in the SAFF Championship which led him to receive the prestigious Arjuna Award.
He even picked up the Golden Glove for his jaw-dropping saves and titanic performance in the Tri-Nation Series.

Trophies won by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu with East Bengal
The towering keeper started winning trophies with the Torchbearers in 2011 and won six titles in the next three years.
Gurpreet won the Calcutta Football League three times with two in a row between 2012 and 2014.
His performances at the club saw him earn a trial and get signed by Stabaek FC where he would stay for a good three years.

Trophies won by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu with Bengaluru FC
Although he won more trophies with East Bengal, it was Gurpreet’s tenure with Bengaluru that turned him into a fan favourite.
The West Block Blues adore him for his vigilant presence at the back and he has repaid them with his stellar showcase of fingertip saves.
He also managed to keep the most clean sheets in 2018-19 and 2019-20, earning the ISL Golden Glove in both seasons.

Individual honours for Gurpreet Singh Sandhu
Gurpreet has picked up a few prestigious individual accolades which include the honourable Arjuna Award in 2019.
He also picked up the ISL Golden Glove twice in a row and clinched the Tri-Nation Series Golden Glove in 2023 as India won the tournament.

What hasn’t Sandhu achieved?
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu has won the major honors with his teams so far. However, he has yet to taste victory in bigger international competitions like the AFC Asian Cup which eventually relies on the entire teams’ capability as well.
The Indian goalkeeper has also not won any trophy with Bengaluru FC since the Durand Cup in 2022. Additionally, Gurpreet has never won the League Winners’ Shield or Super Cup and has yet to prove his mettle in those competitions.
At 32, the goalkeeper’s time is running out but with his experience and ability, one could expect him to win a few of those titles if not all.
