Mohun Bagan complete squad for ISL 2026-27 season
Dilmperis eyes restoration of Mariners’ lost honour.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant heads into the 2026-27 Indian Super League(ISL) season with unfinished business. They came agonisingly close to retaining their top honours, but arch-rivals East Bengal had the last laugh after decimating Inter Kashi 2-1 in a three-goal thriller at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan.
After parting ways with Sergio Lobera, the Mariners roped in former Punjab FC coach Panagiotis Dilmperis from Greece. They commenced their Durand Cup campaign with a 1-0 win over East Bengal but eventually fell 4-1 to the Red and Yellow Brigade in the Durand Cup final.
They have since progressed to the IFA Shield final, setting up yet another Kolkata Derby against East Bengal tonight at the Salt Lake Stadium.
The Mariners have retained much of their Indian core but also made some notable changes. They roped in two Indian internationals, Lallianzuala Chhangte and Rahul Bheke. Moreover, Alex Saji from SC Delhi also joined the Mariners.
To bolster their attack and midfield, they acquired the services of Dezan Drazic from FC Goa, Lee Erwin from Jordanian outfit Al-Faisaly and Miguel Figueira crossed the divide from East Bengal.
Alongside coach Dilmperis, Bosnian defender Samir Zeljkovic also joined the Mariners from Punjab FC. Overall, the squad looks promising and deadly on paper.
The Mariners will kick-start their ISL campaign away from home at Assam’s capital, Guwahati, before visiting the national capital, Delhi, to take on SC Delhi. They will play their first home game against the Marina Machans in the final week of October 2026.
