To increase the attacking prowess from the midfield, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has roped in Dejan Drazic. The green-and-maroon brigade has signed a two-year contract with this Serbian footballer, who has been playing brilliantly in India for the last two years.

He is arriving in the city on Wednesday as the first foreign footballer of this season. Primarily playing as an attacking midfielder, this experienced thirty-year-old footballer can also play on the left wing if needed. Besides orchestrating goal-bound attacks from the midfield and delivering pinpoint passes, he has also scored a lot of goals in his football career.

Drazic’s pairing with Brazilian Miguel Figueira in the midfield could become a major asset for Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s midfield this season.

Apart from playing in the UEFA Champions League, the Serbian SuperLiga and La Liga with a good reputation, he has also played for FC Goa for the last two years. Besides scoring six goals in the Indian Super League last year, Drazic also provided two assists.

After signing the contract, here is what Dejan Drazic had to say in an interview with the MBSG Media:

“Mohun Bagan is one of the biggest clubs in Asia. Alongside its history, heritage and tradition, this club has a massive member and supporter base. So, when the first offer came from the club management, I did not hesitate for a moment to make my decision. Because this club builds its team to win trophies. I think this perfectly aligns with my mentality. I love to prove myself by playing for a club like this.”

“Mohun Bagan Super Giant has built a quite strong, balanced and experienced team this time. I have played against this team. I know what mentality this team steps onto the field with. I think we will be able to enter any competition with a champion’s mindset.”

“I had heard about the Kolkata Derby even before coming to India. It is one of the best derbies in Asia. While playing in the ISL, I have seen the emotion and frenzy among the club supporters regarding this match. This will be a special experience. It is a dream for any footballer to play a match like this. I also want to enjoy this excitement. I am eagerly looking forward to witnessing the excitement and atmosphere of the Kolkata Derby.”

“Every footballer dreams of winning trophies. During my time at the Goa club, I always gave my best and contributed as much as I could through goals and assists. However, football is ultimately a team sport. Mohun Bagan Super Giant have demonstrated over the past few years what it takes to build and sustain a winning mentality. I look forward to being part of that culture and helping maintain that consistency.”

“Before coming to India, I did not know much about the Indian league. But after coming here and playing in the ISL, I was amazed by the professionalism of Indian football. I was happy to see the standard of play and the skills of the footballers. The league is becoming more competitive and exciting every year.”

“The left wing is my favourite position. I love cutting inside from there and delivering goal-scoring passes. However, I love playing in any attacking position. My goal is always to help the team. That will be my job, no matter what position I play in.”

To further strengthen the defence, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has brought Alex Saji into the team. A key member of the Indian youth team, the Kerala footballer has already earned a good reputation playing in the center-back position. Last year, the twenty-six-year-old Saji played for Sporting Club Delhi.

Before this, he has experience playing for renowned clubs like Gokulam Kerala, Kerala Blasters and NorthEast United. Keeping long-term team building in mind, the green-and-maroon management has signed a three-year contract with him.

Standing at six feet two inches tall, Saji always stays ahead in the battle for aerial balls. This is his great quality. This new footballer is arriving in the city tomorrow, Monday, to prepare for the Durand Cup.

After passing his medical examination and signing the contract, here is what Alex Saji told the MBSG Media Team:

“Playing for Mohun Bagan has always been a dream. It has a rich history and a great legacy. When this opportunity came, I felt it was the right time to be part of such a special club. My family and I are very proud that I have joined Mohun Bagan. It is an honour to be part of this club, and I cannot wait to get started and contribute to the team’s success.”

“We have a very strong squad as always. We have added more experienced players to the team, which will make us even stronger. Under Coach Panos, I’m sure we will continue to play as a strong unit and give our best in every match. I’m excited for the season ahead.”

“My target is to give my best in every match and contribute to the team both on and off the field. I want to keep improving as a player and help the team in every way possible. It is also going to be a great learning experience for me to share the dressing room with so many senior players and I look forward to learning from all of them.”
