The Highlanders finished seventh in ISL 2023-24, failing to make it to the playoffs.

NorthEast United FC have had to endure yet another disappointing season in the Indian Super League(ISL). Despite their energetic fanbase cheering them up, the North-Eastern side could only manage six wins and draws each, losing a good eight games.

The only bright spot about their campaign was wonderkid Parthib Gogoi bettering his tally from ISL 2022-23. Juan Pedro Benali’s side would’ve sunk further down the pecking order without his five goals and four assists.

The Spanish head coach could oversee huge changes if he intends to help the club win its first piece of silverware in its 10 years of existence. Now let us have a look at all transfers completed by NorthEast United FC so far in the 2024-2025 summer window:

Incomings

Alaeddine Ajaraie

Powerful Moroccan forward ALaeddine Ajaraie moved to the club after Highlanders’ players Hamza Regragui and Mohammed Ali Bemammer convinced their former teammate.

According to the head coach, Ajaraie is a seasoned and versatile striker, capable of playing across the front line. His tenacious spirit and ability to disrupt the opposition’s backline make him a formidable force in NorthEast United’s attack.

Guillermo Fernandez

With a vast tenure playing for Athletic Bilbao in the La Liga, Copa Del Rey and the UEFA Champions League, Basque forward Guillermo Fernandez will be a unique addition to the Highlanders’ squad.

Fernandez has a whopping 435 appearances across various Spanish and European competitions with 90 professional goals and 25 assists. The Spaniard will be a slightly different offensive alternative who harbors a knack for setting up his teammates as much as getting on the scoreboard himself

Robin Yadav

Despite being only 22, Robin Yadav has displayed maturity beyond his years with a good 25 appearances in various professional leagues including the ISL and the I-League. Although out of preference at Bengaluru FC, the young right-back can surely make a mark with NorthEast United FC.

Mayakkannan Muthu

The former Sreenidhi Deccan and Gokulam Kerala player will bring much-needed stability to the Highlanders’ midfield as his contribution to the defensive midfield will give them a good foundation on which they could build their moves.

Ankith P

The 22-year-old Bengaluru FC graduate has already been a hit with the Highlanders Brigade as the youngster scored in their opening 2-0 win against Bodoland Army in the Durand Cup.

Alfred Lalruotsang

The NorthEast United youth player has been promoted to the first team after returning from Rajasthan United’s reserve side where he was sent on loan last season.

Outgoings

Tomi Juric

One of the more surprising moves by the club was not renewing Tomi Juric’s contract for ISL 2024-25. The Australian hitman featured only six times but had a staggering return of five goals.

Hira Mondal

East Bengal’s breakout star in ISL 2021-22 joined the Highlanders midway last season as Bengaluru FC were unappeased with his services. Hira Mondal has been unable to showcase his beautiful tackling spree for the club as he rejoined the Torchbearers with only one appearance for NorthEast United in ISL 2023-24.

Gaurav Bora

26-year-old Gaurav Bora was limited to only six appearances in ISL 2023-24 and was not given a contract extension ahead of ISL 2024-25.  Following the same the talented centre-half was roped in by ISL entrants Mohammedan SC.

Gani Nigam

Nigam has managed only two goals and four assists for the Highlanders in the past three seasons. After being allowed to make 36 appearances for NEUFC across the ISL, Durand Cup and Super Cup, the left winger wasn’t considered a candidate for a contract extension.

Manvir Singh

Manvir Singh hasn’t had the best form for NorthEast United FC. The forward scored only once and assisted once in 14 appearances and his stay at the club was cut short.

Roccharzela

The right winger is the most prolific name in the departures list with five goals and two assists for the Highlanders but after only one appearance in ISL 2023-24, his contract was allowed to run out.
