The Gaurs secured their first win, but the Torchbearers struggled with three consecutive losses.
In a thrilling encounter, FC Goa defeated East Bengal FC by a 3-2 margin in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Friday. Borja Herrera scored the first hat-trick of the season against his former team to give the Gaurs their first win of the campaign.
East Bengal‘s lack of defensive stability cost the team. They tried for redemption in the second half, however, Herrera’s third goal in the 71st minute broke the team. Although they managed to pull one back in the 85th minute through David Lalhlansanga, the Red and Gold Brigade could not muster enough to level the proceedings.
Here are the Indian player ratings for the match:
East Bengal
Debjit Majumder (GK) – 5.0
Debjit replaced Prabhsukhan Singh Gill and made his debut with his new team. His clearance should have been better in the instance where Borja Herrera scored his first goal of the match. He was beaten thrice throughout the game but had no chance whatsoever for the last two goals.
Souvik Chakrabarti – 6.0
Souvik Chakrabarti maintained an 86% passing accuracy. He had a busy day as the Gaurs constantly put pressure on the backline, making two clearances and two tackles.

In the second half, Anwar Ali contributed more to the attack. Laxmikant Kattimani failed to collect his long-range attempt, and David Lalhlansanga netted East Bengal’s second from the rebound.
Mark Zothanpuia – 5.5
Poor day for Zothanpuia who only won one tackle out of four and maintained a 76% passing accuracy. Substituted out in the 79th minute.
Jeakson Singh – 5.5
Jeakson looked lost in midfield despite completing 21 passes out of 24. Unable to exert any influence or create any specific chances for the team.
Nandhakumar Sekar – 6.0
Nandhakumar worked hard making several runs on the field and delivering some crosses. In the 63rd minute, one of his crosses found Cleiton Silva, but it failed to go in the right direction.
Naorem Mahesh Singh – 5.5
The winger did his part in the first half. In the 41st minute of the match, his cross found Cleiton Silva in the center, who failed to direct it on target. The referee showed him a yellow card due to his continuous fouls on the pitch and that saw Carles Cuadrat take him off, to avoid risking a dismissal.
Substitution
David Lalhlansanga – 6.5
Lalhlansanga brought a new fighting spirit to East Bengal. He came onto the pitch in the 65th minute, replacing Nandhakumar Sekar. Picking the ball up off a rebound, he scored his maiden ISL goal for the club with a left-footed shot.
Vishnu PV – 5.0
His runs made some impact, but he did not create anything specific.
Sayan Banerjee – 6.0

Jesin TK – N/A
FC Goa
Laxmikant Kattimani (GK) – 6
For the first goal, Kattimani’s long pass played a key role. The attackers didn’t trouble him much. He failed to guess the penalty kick and was beaten completely. Additionally, his failure to collect Anwar’s long-range shot resulted in the second goal.
Udanta Singh – 6.5
Udanta assisted the second goal and maintained an 84% passing accuracy. Received a yellow card in the first half and made two crucial clearances for the team.
Nim Dorjee Tamang – 5.5
Nim Dorjee looked shaky as he conceded an unnecessary penalty with his tackle inside the penalty box in the first half. In some instances, he made some crucial clearances.
Akash Sangwan – 6
He played for 90 minutes and maintained a 79% passing accuracy.
Rowlin Borges – 6
The defensive midfielder maintained 91% passing accuracy and made two tackles, two clearances, and two interceptions.
Boris Singh – 7.5
Boris Singh assisted the second goal and created three chances for his team, maintaining a 91% passing accuracy. He also put pressure on Debjit in the first half, resulting in a punch from the keeper which allowed the ball to land at Borja’s feet, who made no mistake to slot it in and open the scoring.
Brison Fernandes – 6.5
Brison was injured, and Nemil replaced him in the 62nd minute. Created a chance for Dejan Drazic in the 59th minute of the game before getting injured.
