East Bengal FC vs Punjab FC: All-time Head-to-Head record in ISL

East Bengal have the upper hand against Punjab in the head-to-head battle.

All roads will lead to the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), Kolkata, as East Bengal FC hosts their last home game of the Indian Super League (ISL ) 2025-26 campaign. East Bengal will lock horns against Punjab FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK), Kolkata, on May 11, 2026, at 7:30 PM (IST).

East Bengal and Punjab FC will face each other in an all-important ISL clash, which is expected to be a repeat showdown between two competitive teams.

Punjab FC is currently at the seventh position in the points table, with 18 points from 10 matches and has very little chance of winning the league this year. While East Bengal started this year’s campaign on a positive note and is now at the top of the points table with 21 points from 10 matches. The Red and Gold Brigade, along with their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan SG are the favourites to win the league this year.

So this will be a vital match for both sides as the Shers will try to upset their opponents and make a statement in the league, while East Bengal would like to continue their good form and stay alive in the title-winning race.

Even though these two ISL sides haven’t really been facing off against each other for a long time, the matches between them have tended to be entertaining ones, and there haven’t really been any ‘boring’ fixtures between the two.

There have been multiple entertaining East Bengal FC vs Punjab FC matches in their meetings in the ISL. The two teams have been involved in some high-octane games over the last few years, even though it’s been the Moshal Brigade to dominate the majority of the contests as well.

Now, we shall look into their history in the ISL by delving into the East Bengal vs Punjab FC all-time head-to-head record in the ISL.

The first-ever East Bengal vs Punjab FC head-to-head battle in the ISL took place at the beginning of the 2023-24 ISL campaign. The match ended in a goalless draw between the two sides at the iconic Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata.

The majority of the East Bengal vs Punjab FC matches, however, have taken place in the ISL over the last three years. It began ever since the Shers were promoted to the top league in Indian football in 2023, following their victory in the 2022-23 I-League campaign.

Since 2023, there have been four matches between the Kolkata giants and Punjab FC in the ISL, and it’s been the Moshal Brigade to have dominated the head-to-head record, winning two of those four matches.

On December 17, 2024, Bengal were down by two goals in the first half of the 2024-25 ISL match at Yubabharati Krirangan, but they made a dramatic comeback in the second half against Punjab FC to win the game by 4-2.

On the other hand, Punjab FC on 10th April, 2024, in the 2023-24 ISL season, defeated East Bengal by 4-1, and proved that underdogs can also create major upsets when needed.

The last five matches between East Bengal and Punjab FC across all competitions have all been won by the Torchbearers, which includes a win in the AIFF Super Cup semifinals last year as well. Punjab FC have won only once against East Bengal so far, which they would like to change in their upcoming clash.

Punjab FC wins – 1

Draws – 1

The upcoming East Bengal vs Punjab FC clash is definitely poised to be a more tightly fought battle than what fans have witnessed in their meetings over the last few years in the ISL.

That is because of East Bengal being under intense pressure, as this match is an important clash for the Red and Gold Brigade if they want to win their first ISL silverware. The Red and Gold Brigade are desperate to maintain its top position in the table, and that will cause them to give their best effort to get a dominant win against their opponents.

Punjab FC, however, are high on confidence after their recent matches and has a stronger squad than they have in recent years as well. The Shers are themselves obsessed with getting a victory over East Bengal, and that is why they will almost treat this like a final to put in a spirited performance and grab all three points.
