ISL side FC Goa set to rope in David Timor, Pol Moreno, and Javier Siverio before ACL 2

FC Goa are the reigning Super Cup 2024-25 Champions.

Indian Super League (ISL) outfit FC Goa are making big moves ahead of their return to continental football. After winning the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 in style by beating Jamshedpur FC 3-0 in the final, the club is looking to strengthen the squad.

FC Goa have now agreed terms with veteran David Timor, Pol Moreno, and Javier Siverio. The final paperwork for all three new signings are set to be completed soon as well, and the Ministry of External Affairs has also given the green signal for their VISA.

With the trio all set to join, FC Goa have now completed a well-rounded overseas unit for the upcoming continental challenge, alongside Dejan Drazic, Borja Herrera, and Iker Guarrotxena.

There’s still some uncertainty around the future of the Indian Super League, but that hasn’t stopped the Gaurs from preparing for their biggest challenge yet – a do-or-die AFC Champions League 2 qualifier against Omani club Al Seeb, set to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao.

With Manolo Marquez back at the helm after his stint with the national team, FC Goa are hoping to finally go one step further after falling just short of the ISL final in recent years. They’ll also be aiming to join Mohun Bagan SG and big names like Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in ACL 2.

In this article, we take a closer look at what the new signings bring to the table ahead of this crucial game.

Veteran David Timor brings in his experience

The 35-year-old veteran Spanish midfielder from Valencia, David Timor, comes to India with so much experience playing across different Spanish clubs in the top divisions.

A product of the Valencia youth setup, Timor will replace the outgoing Irish midfielder, Carl McHugh, who has been a creative engine in the midfield for the Gaurs. Timor has played for La Liga teams like Osasuna, Girona, Valladolid, Leganes, Getafe and Las Palmas.

His diverse experience playing in Spain has seen him share the pitch with the greatest, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, too. Goa has always exhibited a Spanish footballing flair, and that would make things quite easy for Timor to fit in easily.

However, the only concern with Timor is that in his entire footballing career, this would be the first time he would get out of Spain to ply his trade. Conditions in India are very different, but the kind of experience and quality Timor brings to the table, he will be a valuable asset for the Gaurs.

Can Moreno fill in Odei’s boots in the Goan defence?

FC Goa’s centre back duo of Sandesh Jhinghan and Odei Onaindia was a haunting presence for opposition strikers last season. After the departure of Captain Odei, all eyes will be on the 31-year-old Spanish centre back Pol Moreno Sanchez.

Born and brought up in Barcelona, Catalonia, he has featured for clubs like UE Sant Andreu and CE Jupiter during his youth days. After accumulating experience in the Spanish divisions, he switched his allegiance to GIF Sundsvall to compete in the Swedish top tier.

His performance grabbed a lot of eyeballs, and he was offered a contract at Cornelia before making a final switch to Racing Santander in 2021. He has marshalled his team’s defence like a warrior in a competitive league like La Liga 2.

He is expected to play a crucial role in shielding the Goan defence and play a vital role in establishing an impregnable defence in the upcoming season. His mix of experience, coupled with his 6 feet 2 inches tall composure, makes him a perfect replacement for Odei.

The 27-year-old Spaniard has risen through the ranks of the Las Palmas youth setup. He has won the ISL trophy with Hyderabad FC under the tutelage of Manolo Marquez. During his short spell at East Bengal, he won the Kalinga Super Cup with the Torchbearers. His recent stint with Jamshedpur FC was also quite extraordinary, after he scored 7 goals in 26 games.

Javier Siverio’s stats in IS over the years

  • 2024–25 (Jamshedpur FC): 26 matches, 7 goals, 0 assists
  • 2023–24 (Jamshedpur FC): 8 matches, 3 goals, 0 assists
  • 2023–24 (East Bengal FC): 10 matches, 0 goals, 0 assists
  • 2022–23 (Hyderabad FC): 22 matches, 5 goals, 0 assists
  • 2021–22 (Hyderabad FC): 23 matches, 7 goals, 2 assists

The Spaniard is set to be reunited with his former boss, Manolo Marquez, and together they can cook a recipe to propel FC Goa to ACL 2. Armando Sadiku’s departure has left a void in the Goan attack. Siverio has played more as a second striker to Bartholomew Ogbeche during his previous stint with Manolo.

He has accumulated a lot of experience playing in India and is expected to fit in the Goan setup quickly. It will be interesting to see if Manolo continues to deploy him as a substitute striker or if he leads the Goan attack.

Who will FC Goa play in their ACL 2 qualifier?

FC Goa will face Omani club Al Seeb in the AFC Champions League 2 qualifier at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao.

What is David Timor’s previous experience?

David Timor has played in La Liga with clubs like Osasuna, Getafe, Las Palmas, and Valladolid.

Where did Javier Siverio play in the ISL before?

Siverio has played in the ISL with Hyderabad FC, East Bengal, and Jamshedpur FC, scoring 22 goals in 89 matches.
