Khalid Jamil’s side shocked the hosts with a stoppage-time winner.

The eleventh season of the Indian Super League (ISL) continues to deliver thrilling moments and late drama, and the final game of Matchweek 1 was no exception. FC Goa initially took the lead late in the first half when Armando Sadiku’s shot, misjudged by Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper Albino Gomes, found its way into the net.

However, the second half saw one of the most memorable comebacks of the opening week. Khalid Jamil‘s Jamshedpur FC was awarded a penalty in the final 20 minutes after Odei committed a foul, and Javier Siverio, with his reliable penalty-taking prowess, slotted home the crucial equalizer.

Here are the Indian player ratings for the game:

FC Goa

Laxmikant Kattimani – 6.5

Laxmikant Kattimani had a relatively easy day between the sticks until the momentum shifted when Jamshedpur FC was awarded a penalty, which Javier Siverio converted. Throughout the match, Kattimani faced 13 shots, but only 5 were on target, and his quick reflexes allowed him to comfortably handle the pressure.

However, in stoppage time, Jordan Murray’s stunning goal came as an unexpected blow, catching Kattimani off guard and leaving FC Goa fans heartbroken as their team lost in the final moments.

Udanta Singh – 7.5

Udanta Singh, determined to make this season a standout and earn his place back in the Indian national team, had a fairly decent outing. His performance in the first half was particularly impressive, as he formed a strong partnership with Boris Singh on the right wing. Udanta’s overlapping runs were crucial in advancing the attack from the right flank, constantly putting pressure on the opposition’s defense.

Nim Dorjee – 6.5

Nim Dorjee carried significant responsibility heading into the match, stepping in for the absent Sandesh Jhingan. His no-nonsense defending was a perfect complement to Odei Onaindia’s efforts, ensuring that Laxmikant Kattimani had a comfortable first half. In the dying minutes, a lapse in concentration proved costly, allowing Jordan Murray to deliver the final blow and secure a last-minute win for Jamshedpur, overshadowing Dorjee’s earlier defensive contributions.

Akash Sangwan – 6.0

Akash Sangwan had a fairly decent outing, contributing effectively with overlapping runs and delivering crucial balls from the left flank. However, despite his efforts, Imran Khan proved to be a formidable opponent, winning crucial duels and eventually getting the better of Sangwan. While Sangwan’s overall play was commendable, he will need to reassess and refine his approach after the match to ensure a stronger showing in the next fixture.

Rowlin Borges – 7.0

Rowlin Borges was entrusted with the critical task of controlling the tempo and dictating play in the heart of the midfield. His presence in the middle of the park was crucial to FC Goa’s structure. However, his influence was cut short when he was subbed off in the second half, leaving a noticeable void in midfield control.

Boris Singh – 7.0

This match carried deep emotional and nostalgic value for Boris Singh, as he faced his former team, Jamshedpur FC, while donning the FC Goa jersey. He was arguably one of the best Indian performers on the pitch, constantly supplying the ball and making dynamic runs down the right flank to support Armando Sadiku.

Brison Fernandes – 6.5

The local hero, Brison Fernandes, proudly donned jersey number 42 for FC Goa at his home ground in Fatorda, delivering a commendable performance. Brison was a constant source of energy, making deep entries into the opposition’s box and playing an essential role in keeping the pressure on Jamshedpur FC. His runs and positioning consistently posed a threat, as he worked tirelessly to help his team double their lead after FC Goa’s initial breakthrough.

Substitutes

Sahil Tavora – 6.5

Sahil Tavora was introduced as a substitute to inject fresh energy into the FC Goa lineup, but his impact was limited as Jamshedpur FC’s resurgence in the second half overshadowed his performance.

Jay Gupta – 7.0

FC Goa’s emerging talent, Jay Gupta, must have been disappointed not to be included in the starting XI despite a stellar performance last season. He was brought on as a substitute in the second half and had a reasonably decent impact.

Muhammed Nemil – 7.0

Muhammed Nemil also had a relatively decent outing. As a substitute, he was expected to alter the game’s tempo and inject a fresh burst of energy into the Goan side. However, this crucial impact was missing.

Jamshedpur FC

Albino Gomes – 5.0

Albino Gomes endured a challenging debut for Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League, despite FC Goa’s dominance in the first half. The match remained goalless until a critical mistake by Gomes broke the deadlock, allowing Armando Sadiku to score a seemingly easy goal.

A lapse in concentration, likely due to fatigue, caused Gomes to misjudge the shot, which slipped through his hands into the net. His struggles didn’t end there, as another error in the second half compounded the difficult outing. For a veteran like Gomes, expectations were higher, making his debut performance particularly disappointing.

Ashutosh Mehta – 8.5

Unquestionably, Ashutosh Mehta was the standout Indian player for Jamshedpur FC in the match. Making a triumphant return to the Indian Super League after a two-year hiatus due to a doping ban, Mehta marked his comeback with an outstanding performance.

He not only solidified the defensive line but also played a pivotal role in the attack, ensuring a consistent supply of balls from the right flank. His synergy with Imran Khan in the right midfield was instrumental in Jamshedpur’s dominance. Ashutosh Mehta’s performance was nothing short of extraordinary, and his redemption on the pitch was brilliantly executed.

Pratik Chaudhari – 6.5

Pratik Chaudhuri’s first half performance was somewhat underwhelming, as his team faced a barrage of shots in the opening minutes. However, his resolute defending and no-nonsense approach played a crucial role in limiting the damage, with FC Goa conceding only one goal, which was partly due to a goalkeeper’s error.

Muhammad Uvais – 7.0

Muhammad Uvais, operating as the left back for Jamshedpur FC, played a pivotal role in both the defensive and offensive efforts from the left flank. His contributions were vital in maintaining a dynamic flow of play, including executing key long throw-ins into the opposition’s penalty area, which facilitated counter-attacks.

Sourav Das – 6.0

In the absence of Pronay Halder, Sourav Das was tasked with anchoring the midfield as the central defensive midfielder. Unfortunately, his performance fell short of expectations. Das struggled throughout the match, earning a yellow card for a poor tackle on Boris Singh, which hindered his effectiveness.

Imran Khan – 8.0

Imran Khan, recently called up to the national team and with high expectations this season, delivered an impressive performance in his debut game. He played a pivotal role in generating numerous brilliant crosses into the opposition’s penalty area, significantly contributing to his team’s attacking efforts.

Mohammed Sanan – 7.0

Jamshedpur FC’s golden boy, Mohammed Sanan, who recently extended his contract with the Red Miners for the next few years, had an outstanding Durand Cup campaign, showcasing his goal-scoring prowess. Despite high expectations, his performance in this match fell short of brilliance. However, Sanan was instrumental in maintaining a consistent threat from the right flank, contributing to his team’s attacking efforts.

Substitutes

Mobashir Rahman – 7.5

Mobashir Rahman, the local talent from Jamshedpur, was introduced to bring control and stability to the midfield. His entry had an immediate impact, infusing the team with energy and revitalizing their performance as he controlled the tempo from the middle of the park.

Seminlen Doungel – 6.5

Len‘s performance was satisfactory. He was expected to revitalise his team’s attack and lead from the front. However, Jordan Murray and Javi’s performance was too good tonight to overshadow Len’s impact.

Nikhil Barla – 7.0

Barla was brilliant tonight. Despite coming late, he was nothing less than a super sub, quickly filling in the boots of a winger. His ability and flexibility to play as a full-back and a winger make him a handy option for Khalid Jamil in the upcoming season. He was Khalid’s trump card, whose introduction to the match brought immediate results.
