Indian Super League (ISL) club FC Goa will be looking to capitalize on their home advantage when they welcome Bengaluru FC for the second leg of the semi-finals in Goa. The match set to be played at the Fatorda Stadium will be a ‘win or go home’ encounter for the Gaurs, who currently trail the Blues 2-0 on aggregate.

The last game witnessed the Blues head coach Gerard Zaragoza completely outplay Gaurs head coach Manolo Marquez. Goals from Edgar Mendez and an own goal by Sandesh Jhingan helped Bengaluru earn a crucial lead ahead of their trip to Goa.

The Stakes

FC Goa

The Gaurs under Manolo Marquez managed a second-place finish in the league stages of the ISL, but however showed visible absence of match sharpness in the first-leg. However, the Spaniard will be keen to help his team regain their killer edge ahead of a crucial and must-win second-leg.

While Marquez shared his belief that the scoreline was not a fair reflection of his team performance, the Spaniard will need to go with a more attacking lineup against the Blues. A win is essential for Marquez and a loss could be a devastating blow for the club’s players who have had an impressive season.

Bengaluru FC

The Blues and head coach Gerard Zaragoza will be oozing with confidence after an exceptional start to their ISL playoffs campaign. Bengaluru have scored seven goals in their two playoff games this season, a far cry from their struggles during the regular season.

Another promising sign will be the decreased dependence on Sunil Chhetri and his skill-set to provide the goals. The veteran foreign players like Edgar Mendez and Ryan Williams alongside rising stars Vinith Venkatesh and Namgyal Bhutia have combined well. A positive result will be all Bengaluru needs to make their way to their fourth ISL final.
