Several iconic stadiums have hosted the iconic ISL grand finale.

For the past 10 years, the Indian Super League (ISL) has been at the top of club football in India. Since its inception in 2014, the Indian Super League has been serving as a major hub for showcasing top footballing talent, both domestic as well as internationally.

Across the years, several teams have staged their excellence in the Indian Super League, and have acclaimed the title of ISL winners. The ISL final has been a spectacle for all these seasons, and the venue has been the perfect setting for a showdown of such magnitude.

Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the venues that have hosted the ISL finals.

DY Patil Stadium – 2014

DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai got the incredible opportunity of hosting the first-ever ISL final back in 2014. The finale witnessed a clash between Atletico de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters, in quite a nervy tie that had lots of drama and action.

Over 36,000 fans made their way into the stands, to witness Mohammed Rafique head the ball into the back of the net, to win the ISL for Kolkata and script the club’s name into the history books forever.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (Kochi) –  2016

The 2016 ISL final saw the highest-ever attendance recorded in the Indian Super League, as 82,000 spectators turned up to watch Kerala Blasters seek revenge against Atletico de Kolkata, for the defeat in the 2014 final. The breathtaking game started with a goal by Kolkata, which was met by an equalizer by Kerala, to send the sea of yellow in absolute euphoria.

With either team failing to score, the game went to penalties, where Kolkata emerged victorious yet again, and got the double over Kerala. Kolkata showed brilliant display in character.

Sree Kanteerava Stadium – 2017/18

Bengaluru FC were causing absolute mayhem in their first season of ISL, as they finished the season at the top of the table, and also made it to the finals, where they would be facing Chennaiyin FC at home turf.

The action-packed game went off to a flying start, as stalwart Sunil Chhetri handed Bengaluru a lead in the opening 10 minutes, but a sensational comeback by Chennaiyin, saw them score three goals thereon, which was enough to get them over the line and silence the 25,000+ Bengaluru FC supporters in the stands.

Mumbai Football Arena – 2018/19

Bengaluru’s despair of missing out on the trophy was acted upon by the club the very next season, as this time the West Block Blues left no stone unturned, and defeated a formidable FC Goa by the closest of margins.

Rahul Bheke was the player with the magic touch that sent the traveling fans into Euphoria and gave them the bragging rights of being ISL champions.

Fatorda Stadium – 2015, 2019/20, 2020/21, 2021/22, 2022/23

Having hosted the last four Indian Super League finals, Fatorda Stadium has become the commonplace of Indian Super League finals, and rightly so. The incredible facilities in and around the stadium, including the training grounds as well as the top-notch infrastructure, provide the perfect setting for such an important tie.

The first final hosted in the stadium was back in 2015, when Chennaiyin stabbed the hearts of FC Goa, with a late turnaround. Post that, two finals were played at the Fatorda behind closed doors, due to the COVID outbreak.

The last two finals, between Hyderabad FC and Kerala and ATK Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru, have also been played at the same venue, with Hyderabad and ATK Mohun Bagan emerging victorious.

This time out, the ISL final will be played at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
