ISL 2024-25: Full updated squad of East Bengal FC
The Red and Gold Brigade aspire to build on last season’s success with their galvanised squad.
East Bengal FC have regrouped under Carles Cuadrat ahead of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 after winning the Super Cup 2024 a few months back. The Torchbearers, however, faced disappointment in the Durand Cup 2024, getting knocked out by Shillong Lajong in the quarter-finals.
Incidentally, it was preceded by an exit from the AFC Champions League (ACL) Two 2024-25 Preliminary stages after a similar narrow loss. However, East Bengal’s biggest positive aspect in their losses was that they lost by a slender margin on both occasions (1-2 against Shillong Lajong and 2-3 against Altyn Asyr).
The Kolkata giants will now compete in the AFC Challenge League 2024-25 where they have been drawn in Group A alongside Bashundhara Kings, Nejmeh SC, and Paro FC. It will be a tough challenge for the Torchbearers to navigate both the ISL and the Challenge League especially since all of their opponents in the latter are champions of their respective countries’ top-tier football leagues.
East Bengal have reinforced their squad depth with considerable upgrades in their foreign and national contingent which would help them overcome the cul-de-sac that is their schedule. They have expertly roped in Punjab FC’s creative nexus Madih Talal, Kerala Blasters’ expert finisher Dimitrios Diamantakos, and their archrivals (Mohun Bagan Super Giant) ragtag tackling machine Hector Yuste.
Among the Indian additions are goalkeeping stalwart Debjit Majumder, promising defensive midfielder Jeakson Singh, fullback Provat Lakra, the versatile Mark Zothanpuia, and Mohammedan SC’s youth sensation David Lalhlansanga. Some of these names have already proven themselves in East Bengal’s colours while the rest have yet to create an impact in the field.
The biggest Indian arrival despite his recent contract dispute has to be Anwar Ali, who won’t be able to feature for his new club for now, after the AIFF imposed a ban on him for the same but will hopefully return for the second half of the season.
Cuadrat has also included some youth team graduates after their successful ventures in the ongoing Calcutta Football League (CFL). The youngsters are some of the brightest names in Indian football like Vishnu PV, Vanlalpeka Guite, Ajad Saheem, and CK Aman.
The Head Coach will be supported by Assistant Coach Dimas Delgado and Indian Assistant Coach Bino George along with Carlos Jimenez Sanchez as the Fitness Coach and Javier Pinillos as the Goalkeeping Coach.
