Mohun Bagan have roped in Australian goal-poacher Jamie MacLaren.

Mohun Bagan Super Giant have a lot of expectations heading into the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign after winning the league shield last time around. The Mariners have major ambitions going into the new campaign and their ultimate motive would be to not only defend their League Winners’ Shield trophy but also win the ISL title after coming up short against Mumbai City FC last season in the final.

With a new head coach Jose Molina in charge, the Green and Maroon Brigade are hoping to dominate their opposition and play some attractive football in the Indian Super League. They had quite the eventful 2024 summer transfer window in which the Kolkata club was able to significantly improve their squad with some high-quality signings.

Mohun Bagan signed a prominent new striker Jamie Maclaren, who earned his reputation for being one of the A-League’s best forwards. Maclaren scored 112 goals in under 150 games for Melbourne City, helping them win the league title three times in the last four years. He’s also scored 11 goals for the Australia national team, as well as featured in their 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

The Mariners will hope that Maclaren brings that ultimate spark to their attack and ends up being a goal machine for them too. Apart from that, Mohun Bagan also surprised many by bringing in former Mumbai City midfielder Greg Stewart. Stewart has scored 21 goals and assisted 21 times in 50 ISL appearances, bringing that added creative and goal-scoring brilliance.

Mohun Bagan were able to bolster their midfield with the stunning signing of Lalengmawia Ralte from Mumbai City too. They spent the big bucks to bring in the India international to be a key core member of their team for the years to come. Apart from that, they also signed Dheeraj Singh to compete with Vishal Kaith.

Jose Molina also brought aboard a couple of new foreign centre-backs to add more steel to his backline. The Mariners signed towering Spanish defender Alberto Rodriguez as well as former Watford and Brisbane Roar centre-back Tom Aldred to bolster their defensive shape.

Apart from that, Mohun Bagan also offloaded a number of players. The most controversial exit was that of Anwar Ali, who terminated his contract with them to join rivals East Bengal. Apart from that, they also allowed Spanish defender Hector Yuste leave for free – allowing him to join the Kolkata rivals. Joni Kauko was also released to accommodate the signing of Stewart.

The Mariners also released Australian centre-back Brendan Hamill as well as forward Armando Sadiku, with the latter joining FC Goa. Hugo Boumous, who was barely used last season, was also allowed to leave to join Odisha FC. Apart from this, young forward Kiyan Nassiri as well as Debnath Mondal and Lalrinliana Hnamte were also released from the squad.

Despite that, Mohun Bagan still have a very strong squad that can take the ISL by storm in the upcoming campaign.
