ISL 2025-26: Jerry Mawihmingthanga signs for East Bengal

Jerry has completed his move to East Bengal.
The 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season finally has some direction, with the league set to start on 14th February 2026. With just over two weeks remaining, all the clubs are now racing to get their domestic and international signings completed as they get set to compete for the upcoming season.
East Bengal have added Jerry Mawihmingthanga to their ranks in the January transfer window. The winger joins the club, adding depth to the attack on a short-term deal until the end of the 2025-26 season.
East Bengal FC have been quite active in the transfer market after the end of last season. The Kolkata club is yet to qualify for the playoffs in the ISL, with their best finish being the 9th spot. With local rivals Mohun Bagan consistently picking up titles, the Red and Gold Brigade are keen to change their fortunes.
Jerry Mawihmingthanga’s ISL career

A product of the DSK Shivajians youth academy, Jerry started his professional career in the ISL with NorthEast United FC, making his debut in the 2016 season. Following this, he was signed by Jamshedpur FC in 2017.
The Mizo winger represented the Men of Steel for 2 seasons, playing 30 games in all competitions. In this, Jerry scored 1 goal and assisted 5 times, showcasing his speed and winning the accolades of his peers.
His strong showing with Jamshedpur FC meant that other clubs were naturally interested in the young prospect. Odisha FC signed Jerry in 2019, and he has since played for the Kalinga Warriors – representing them for the last six seasons.
Following up on his time with JFC, Jerry Mawihmingthanga’s stint at Odisha FC was even better, as the player scored 20 goals and provided 19 assists in 130 games for his club. The winger played an important part in Odisha’s Super Cup win in 2023 and was also part of their squad in the 2023-24 AFC Cup campaign.
While he is versatile, Jerry’s main position is on the right wing, where he has played the majority of his career. East Bengal also has PV Vishnu and Nandhakumar Sekar in their ranks, and both play in a similar role. Hence, it has to be seen how Jerry will fit into this setup.
Are East Bengal ready to challenge for the ISL title?
East Bengal have had a decent 2025-26 season so far. The Red and Gold Brigade finished runners-up in the recently concluded Super Cup, losing to FC Goa on penalties. To add to this, they also reached the semifinals of the Durand Cup, where they were upset by Diamond Harbour FC.
The Kolkata-based club has underperformed in recent ISL seasons. They seem to have turned a page under Oscar Bruzon, however, there is still room for improvement. East Bengal have certainly improved their squad, hence, a strong start to their 2025-26 ISL season might just be what the club needs to challenge for the title this season.
