East Bengal are back in contention for the ISL’s sixth playoff spot.

East Bengal emerged victorious over Kerala Blasters away from home in a classic 4-2 encounter. The home side set the tone of the game with Lithuanian forward Fedor Cerynch finding the back of the net in the 23rd minute.

Ivan Vukomanovic’s men were totally in control until Jeakson Singh was sent off and his team conceded a penalty just before half-time. Subsequently, Saul Crespo converted the penalty to equalize for the Red & Gold Brigade heading into the break.

Despite playing with 10 players, Kerala Blasters held East Bengal for the first 25 minutes of the second half. Post that, Crespo scored his second of the day to give the lead to the away side.

In the 74th minute, Naocha Singh was also shown marching orders after he headbutted young Aman CK. Eight minutes later, Naorem Mahesh Singh scored the third goal for his side but the drama was far from over.

East Bengal’s Jordanian defender Hijazi Maher unintentionally netted an own goal in the 84th minute to give a glimmer of hope to the home side. However, three minutes later, Mahesh notched up his second and his side’s fourth goal to put the game to bed.

With this win, East Bengal are just one point away from the ISL’s sixth playoff spot.
