Kerala Blasters FC's win record against clubs in ISL

Kerala Blasters are yet to win a major trophy.
Kerala Blasters FC, a club characterised by its huge fan base and a story of passion, has experienced its own moments of glory in the Indian Super League.
Their path has witnessed breakdowns and close calls, with them even coming so near to winning the title three times but ultimately being unable to grab it in the final. Almost every time they came close to winning a silverware, the trophy always evaded the club
Despite this dismay, the club has also produced some breathtaking performances, showcasing its attacking credentials and capabilities to overpower the opposition and provide the fans with moments engraved in golden letters that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Aside from the hard-fought wins that have been a hallmark of many of their seasons, some games have stood out for their dominant scorelines and a demonstration of sheer footballing dominance.
From finishing fourth in the inaugural season, losing the final at home in 2016, reaching the playoffs under head coach Ivan Vukomanovic in three consecutive years, to a disappointing 8th place finish in season 11, Kerala Blasters have come a long way. Here, we look at Kerala Blasters’ top ten win record against the Indian Super League Clubs

Odisha FC (10 wins in 26 games)

One of the teams the Tuskers have dominated is Odisha FC. Whenever Blasters lock horns against Odisha, at Kaloor, the team has always made a comeback, displaying relentless grit, with most of the matches being decided in the dying minutes of the game. The men in yellow have managed to secure their fortress and prevent Odisha from winning a game at their home.
However, on the other side of the coin, despite this brilliant record, Kerala Blasters have never managed to defeat the Juggernauts at the Kalinga Stadium, meaning most of the matches that the Blasters won were at home, notably the one featuring a stunning 2-1 victory in the season 10, that also marked the return of Ivan Vukomanovic after a 10-game ban.
NorthEast United FC (9 wins in 24 games)

The rivalry between Kerala Blasters and NorthEast United FC, often hailed as a clash between the ‘North’ and ‘South’ of Indian football, is one of the most passionate in the ISL. Fueled by two of the league’s most vocal and dedicated fanbases, matches between the two clubs are always electrifying, marked by a constant exchange of chants and banners in a display of fierce loyalty off the pitch. With 9 wins, 8 draws and 27 goals scored, Blasters have had a rather easy job of keeping NorthEast silenced.
In one of the most iconic clashes of their history, the Blasters faced NorthEast United in a winner-takes-all match in December 2016. The game was a virtual knockout tie, with the winner advancing to the semi-finals. Following a narrow 1-0 defeat to NorthEast United at the start of the season, Kerala Blasters delivered a moment of pure magic, with C.K. Vineeth scoring the winner in front of a capacity crowd at Kaloor.
Chennaiyin FC (8 wins in 24 games)

Chennaiyin FC is yet another team against which the Blasters have had a positive head-to-head result, with the Kerala side holding a 33% win record against the Marina Machans. The southern derby between Blasters and Chennaiyin is always a closely contested one, with Blasters winning 8 matches and Chennaiyin winning 7 times.
However, in recent years, Kerala Blasters have dominated Chennaiyin and even managed to win both the home and away games in the latest season. One of the most decisive games both teams have been involved is the 2014 ISL Semi Final, where Blasters scored the late goal to win the semi-finals on aggregate terms and qualify for the final.
Mumbai City FC (6 wins in 22 games)

Mumbai City have always been a tough opponent for the Blasters, and almost every time, Kerala Blasters vs Mumbai City FC means payback time for both sides. It is also a clash between two fan groups off the pitch, apart from the game played on the field.
In one of the most defining matches of the club’s history, the Blasters defeated Mumbai City FC 2-0 at Kaloor on Christmas Eve of 2023, marking a proper comeback story following an intense 2-1 defeat at Mumbai, which saw yellow cards and red cards flying for both clubs.
Hyderabad FC (6 wins in 13 games)

Most of the matches against Hyderabad FC feel like a walk in the park for the Blasters. With a 46 per cent win rate, the Blasters had managed to have the better of the Nizams, even in their toughest times, including a crushing 5-1 victory at home in the 2019 edition of the league, where the Blasters finished ninth out of ten.
However, it is the same Hyderabad that crushed Kerala’s dreams of winning a silverware, as they defeated Blasters in the ISL 2021-22 edition final on penalties. Similarly, in the latest edition of the ISL, while everyone thought Blasters were the favourites to win in the fixture, the Nizams proved them wrong by defeating the Blasters once and keeping them in a deadlock in the final group stage match.
East Bengal (5 wins in 11 games)

Yet another striking feat for the Blasters is their win record against East Bengal. The Kolkata side have not created much trouble for Kerala, and the Blasters have managed to get past them with ease. In the 11 encounters, Blasters have managed to win four times, with East Bengal just behind with three points and the remaining four matches ending in a deadlock.
In the 2022-23 season opener, after the lockdown restrictions were removed and normalcy returned, Blasters defeated East Bengal 3-1 with a chipping goal from Adrian Luna and a brace from Ivan Kalyuzhnyi, reaffirming their dominance at their base, Kaloor.
Pune City (5 wins in 10 games)
One stat that the Blasters fans can be proud of is the win record against the former ISL side Pune City FC. With five wins and three draws, the Blasters made themselves an impenetrable team, and Pune City struggled to get past them and add three points to the tally.
With an average of 2.4 goals per match, the Blasters have breached the Pune net on fourteen instances in ten matches, ensuring a goal galore every time the two sides face off.
FC Goa (5 wins in 22 games)

Whenever the match is between FC Goa and Kerala Blasters, explosive results are bound to be produced. With coaches like Manolo Marquez, Sergio Lobera, and Juan Ferrando managing the Goa side, the match is essentially a tactical battle between both sides, and the Blasters have managed to prevail on five different occasions against the Gaurs.
In one of the most nail-biting fixtures held in February 2024, Blasters registered a clinical comeback against the Gaurs at the Kaloor Stadium, defeating them 4-2 with four second-half goals after trailing 0-2 in the first half with the services of Daisuke Sakai, Dimitrios Diamantakos, and Fedor Cernych.
Bengaluru FC (4 wins in 19 games)

The southern derby against the local rivals Bengaluru FC is not only played on the pitch. It starts right from the stands, hours before the match kicks off, and a win would mean more to the fans than the players, as it asserts regional dominance and bragging rights over them.
However, to the disappointment of the fans, the Blasters have managed to win only four out of the nineteen matches against the Blues and are yet to have the last laugh at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. In one of the thrilling encounters, Kerala Blasters beat Bengaluru FC 2-1 in the ISL Season opener at the Kaloor Stadium, which was the first time these two teams met since the controversial walk-off in the season nine playoffs, marking an end to the chapter that never came to an end.
Jamshedpur FC (4 wins in 19 games)

The men in yellow have had a passable head-to-head record against the men of steel, as they were unable to convert the winning situations and bring out a positive result, during multiple instances. The fixture has seen a large number of draws, with each team sharing the spoils in almost half the number of matches played.
Out of the remaining decisive matches, the yellow army has managed to win four games, which even includes a thrilling victory in the semi-finals of ISL season nine, a dominating victory at home in both 2023 and 2024, with Adrian Luna shining on every occasion with his offensive contributions.
