The Gaurs face a tough encounter against the Tuskers in Kochi in match week 9.

Building up to the high-stakes encounter against the Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League (ISL), FC Goa head coach Manolo Marquez addressed the media. While sharing his thoughts on the team’s recent form, injury updates, and preparations, the Spaniard reveals selection troubles ahead of their game at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi.

With momentum on their side following consecutive wins in their last two games, match week 9 brings Manolo Marquez and his men a huge challenge. While exuding confidence in his team’s ability to continue their strong start to the season, the Spaniard spoke candidly about the team’s mentality in the build-up to the game.

Manolo Marquez wants FC Goa to continue the winning momentum

After entering the international break on a high note, securing crucial wins against fellow contenders Bengaluru FC and Punjab FC, the club gained a new lease of life. While such momentum can be disrupted for a team looking to accumulate results, Marquez viewed it as a blessing in disguise.

Manolo Marquez stated, “We knew we had two tough games before the break, and we got six points. That made the break very good for us. But always we can turn the question. But obviously, they were very good at six points. Now, we need to continue. This is the next fixture.”

While acknowledging the challenges posed by breaks in the schedule, the Spaniard stated, “We’ve been training very well, and I still believe we’ll have a good season,” reinforcing his faith in his team’s preparation and work ethic.

FC Goa will be welcoming back Aakash Sangwan

Manolo Marquez confirmed that left-back Aakash Sangwan had recovered from a minor injury sustained earlier in the season and will be available for selection against the Tuskers. However, players like Rowlin Borges, Mohammed Nemil, and Laxmikant Kattimani, remain sidelined with injuries.

Despite these absences, Marquez praised the depth of the Gaurs’ squad. While describing it as a “good problem”, Manolo Marquez Marquez stated, “The competition within the squad is fantastic. It allows us to manage the team better and ensure every player feels important”.

Squad Rotation on the agenda ahead of Kerala test

Marquez expressed excitement about facing a Kerala Blasters team under a new coach and bolstered by fresh tactics and players. Recalling his past visits to Kochi he stated, “It’s always nice to play in Kerala. Their fans bring an incredible energy to the stadium, which makes it a special experience.”

The Spaniard hinted that changes to the starting lineup will be afoot while emphasizing the need for rotation in a competitive league like the ISL. He stated, “You need most of your players early in the season. If you don’t rotate, it’s hard to maintain form and handle injuries.”

Manolo Marquez also added that the versatility of his squad allows him the luxury to adapt his tactics to take on a Kerala side experiencing a new manager bounce.
