Andrey Chernyshov had earlier decided to resign from the post.
In a surprising and emotional turn of events, Mohammedan SC head coach Andrey Chernyshov has decided to retract his earlier decision to step down from his role.
The reversal comes after an intense and heartfelt discussion with the club’s primary investors, Shrachi Sports and BunkerHill, particularly through the intervention of Mr Deepak Singh from BunkerHill. His involvement proved instrumental in persuading Chernyshov to remain at the helm.
The Russian tactician, who has been a crucial figure in MDSC’s journey from the I-League to the Indian Super League (ISL), initially announced his resignation via a deeply emotional social media post.
Frustrated by unpaid wages and unfulfilled contractual obligations, Chernyshov stated, “This is the most difficult and sad decision in my coaching career. I came to your country to give a good result, but I have a contract that clearly states the conditions that the club must fulfil. As a professional, I cannot work for three months without receiving a salary.”
His words resonated with fans and players alike, as he recounted the challenges he and his squad had endured. Despite the struggles, he expressed his deep love for the club and its supporters, saying, “We won, we lost… but we did a very big thing—we won together in the I-League. We got into the ISL, the highest level in Indian football. It was difficult for us, we were criticized, but you were always with me and the team.”

Role of the investors and Mohammedan SC’s commitment to resolution
Following Chernyshov’s announcement, an emergency dialogue was initiated between the club’s management and investors. A press statement from MSC confirmed that constructive discussions led to his change of heart. The club acknowledged the coach’s significance, stating, “Chernyshov has been instrumental in shaping MDSC’s ISL campaign, and his dedication to the team’s growth has been invaluable. We deeply appreciate his contributions and sincerely hope he will continue to guide MDSC toward greater success.”
Moreover, the club reassured its stakeholders that substantial progress had been made in addressing financial concerns, including the issuance of shares to investors and clearing outstanding dues of players and staff.
“We are also pleased to share that substantial progress has been made regarding the issuance of shares to the investors. A preliminary understanding has been reached between the club and its principal investors, marking an important step forward in this matter. The legal teams of all parties involved are actively collaborating to finalize this process, and we are confident that this issue will be resolved promptly,” the statement read.
“Regarding the outstanding dues of the team and its staff, we want to assure all concerned that the welfare of our players, staff, and supporters remains our highest priority. We are fully committed to resolving this matter at the earliest opportunity. We anticipate that once the share issuance matter is concluded, the dues will be cleared without further delay,” it added.
With the financial and administrative uncertainties gradually being addressed, Chernyshov is now set to refocus his efforts on the field. His decision to stay provides much-needed stability to a squad that had been left in limbo following his resignation announcement.
The fans, who had rallied behind the coach during this crisis, will be hopeful that this saga marks a turning point in MDSC’s ISL campaign. With renewed commitment from both Chernyshov and the investors, the club now looks forward to overcoming its obstacles and building towards a promising future.
Chernyshov’s final message encapsulated the emotional rollercoaster of the past few days: “I love you all and wish you the best. MSC is more than just a club—it is a family. I will continue to give my all for this team, its players, and its wonderful supporters.”
