Mumbai City FC claimed on social media the Lachenpa-Nawaz duo as ‘Jodi No. 1’.

Mumbai City FC will be bidding farewell to goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz at the end of May, as his three-year contract with the club concludes. Nawaz, who joined the Islanders from FC Goa, has been a pivotal figure for the team, contributing significantly during his tenure. Over his three seasons, Nawaz made 28 appearances and secured five clean-sheets.

Despite his noteworthy performances, Nawaz faced limited playing opportunities in the recently concluded 2023/2024 Indian Super League season. He participated in only five matches, accumulating a total of 407 minutes on the field. Nawaz started three of the season’s 24 fixtures, with the remaining two appearances coming off the bench. His last competitive appearance was on March 12th, during Mumbai City FC’s 4-1 victory over NorthEast United FC, where he played for 55 minutes. Unfortunately, Nawaz was unable to secure a clean sheet in the 2023/2024 ISL season.

The club acknowledged Nawaz’s valuable contributions over the past seasons. Mumbai City FC extended their heartfelt thanks to Mohammad Nawaz for his dedication and service, wishing him success in his future endeavours. Nawaz’s legacy at the club is highlighted by his resilience, skill, and the camaraderie he built with his teammates.

Phurba Lachenpa, the first-choice goalkeeper for Mumbai City FC, shared a heartfelt message for Nawaz: “My Man, Mohammed Nawaz, is leaving finally and sadly, but super happy because I know you are one of the best keepers we have in our country and you deserve everything. Though we have won everything together in, I will miss your absence as these three years we have built one of the best relationships.”

Lachenpa’s words reflect the deep bond and mutual respect shared between the two goalkeepers. As Nawaz moves forward in his career, the club and its supporters will always remember his contributions and wish him all the best for the future.
