Juan Pedro Benali also praised his players for their great show.

Juan Pedro Benali, the head coach of NorthEast United FC, voiced out after the thrashing win against Jamshedpur FC by a five-nil scoreline in an Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season match at Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium, Guwahati.

This was the biggest win for the Highlanders in the history of ISL. Parthib Gogoi scored two goals in the match, in the 44th and 55th minutes of the game. Answering a question from Khel Now about why the coach substituted Parthib Gogoi and did not give him a chance to complete his hat-trick, coach Juan Pedro Benali responded that Parthib was not very active then.

“Because he was not so active. In the attacking half, there’s more space, and we need fresh legs. Suddenly four or five players were not coming back to defend. We couldn’t give the opponent more chances,” Juan Pedro Benali stated.

Juan Pedro Benali added, “I am very happy for him. Now the ones who have opened their mouth too much can be quiet for one week. And we’ll see what happens in the next game.”

We Prepared well

Responding to a question about whether Jamshedpur FC were an easy opponent, Juan Pedro Benali said the team had been preparing for this match for a week. “We’ve been working for one week on all the details and everything. Nothing is easy.”

“I promise it was not easy. It was playing against a solid team, physically very strong. And we knew that if we did our job, our game plan, we could win. This is what happened,” Juan Pedro Benali added.

“We trained a lot to do this. You know, nothing is easy. Sit on a bench, and you see how easy it is,” the tactician opined.

Contrary to Motivation, Juan Pedro Benalis’s plan

The Spanish gaffer also talked about the motivation for the game. Referring to the motivation Juan Pedro Benali mentioned in the pre-match press conference, “Not to think that we are finished. We did something. Now we need to do the contrary. We need to go down a little bit. We will give happiness to the players today and tomorrow. Tomorrow, we have a training session, and after that, they have an off day.”

“When they come back, we put them back to earth and start thinking about the Odisha game. Now, this game is finished. We need to think forward and be humble, keep going, stay strong defensively, and be ruthless in attack,” Juan Pedro Benali concluded.
