Parthib Gogoi’s rise from Assam to NorthEast United is a great success story.

John Abraham, the owner of the Indian Super League (ISL) team NorthEast United FC, spoke about the “Agla Hero Kaun” campaign. He mentioned that the 21-year-old Parthib Gogoi would be the next hero of the first tier of Indian professional football.

In the video, John said, “Parthib (Parthib Gogoi) is fantastic. Parthib is a star. Parthib is better than some of the international strikers across the ISL teams. He is outstanding and he’s mercurial. His shot-taking ability and his decision-making ability in the final third is brilliant. So, I think he is the Agla (next) hero,” he added.

Agla Hero Kaun?

The Indian Super League 2024-25 season will kick off on Friday, September 13, 2024, with a marquee clash between ISL League Winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant and ISL Cup Winners Mumbai City FC at 7:30 pm IST at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

The “Agla Hero Kaun?” campaign comes at a pivotal moment in Indian football, aiming to reignite fans’ passion nationwide, especially in regions where football holds deep cultural significance. Football in India is more than just a sport—it reflects pride, community, and the aspirations of millions.

From Durand Cup hat-tricks to ISL bangers

Parthib Gogoi scored a spectacular hat-trick in the 132nd Durand Cup against Shillong Lajong FC in Guwahati on August 4, 2024, which made him a football star in the region. He continues his goalscoring form, and in the first three matches of the ISL, scored three bangers against Mumbai City FC, Chennaiyin FC, and Punjab FC.

As per the ISL website, since Parthib’s debut in the 2022–23 season, no player has scored more goals from outside the box than him. In the ISL season 2023-24, he netted 5 goals for his club and provided five assists to his teammates.

In the recently concluded, 133red edition of Durand Cup, he scored one goal and one assist. He missed two matches due to injury. In the crucial moments of the penalty shootout, he scored the third penalty kick, giving his team a lead. The NEUFC won the 133rd Durand Cup, which was Highlander’s first silverware.

Parthib Gogoi’s footballing journey

Parthibs football journey started at a football coaching center in Gurgaon, instilled by his father, Paban Gogoi, an associate professor of History at Nazira College.

His father introduced him to the game through videos of Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and others. Encouraged by his parents, who were both teachers, Parthib’s passion grew, and he soon found himself representing NorthEast United FC on the football field.
