Northeast United get an all-important win to keep their ISL playoff hopes alive.

Northeast United defeated Kerala Blasters in a thrilling contest, which saw the Highlanders score two late goals, to keep their hopes high for an Indian Super League (ISL) playoff spot. NorthEast United come up to the seventh spot in the ISL league table just behind Chennaiyin FC.

The two sides started the game strong, but Northeast were the better of the two, creating several chances, which they unfortunately couldn’t convert.

Going into the second half, both teams’ approach became very unclear, and there was no direction towards their play. Kerala were happy to sit back and play out a draw, whereas for Northeast it was important to get three points out of this game, to still be in high contention for a playoff spot.

All hope seemed to be lost, but then came into the limelight, Nestor Albiach, with an audacious chip, lofted the ball past the keeper, to make it 1-0. Just a few minutes later, Phalguni showcased incredible trickery on the edge of the box and played a great pass into the path of Phalguni, who made it 2-0 and sealed a deal for the Highlanders.
