Punjab FC are still in contention for that sixth ISL playoff spot.

In a recent statement, Indian Super League outfit Punjab FC took to their official social media handles to declare that their next two ISL home matches, which are scheduled to be conducted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, will be played under closed door and no spectators will be allowed to enter the stadium.

The first match that will be played behind the closed door is the match against Mohun Bagan Super Giant, scheduled on 6th of April and the second match is against East Bengal FC, which is scheduled on 10th of April.

The tweet said, “We regret to inform you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the matches against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on 6th of April and against East Bengal FC on 10th of April will be played behind closed doors. The #shers will miss your presence in the stands.”

The two matches are going to be Punjab’s last league stage matches in the ISL 2023-24. Although the spectators will not be allowed inside the stadium, they can witness the match through live telecast or live streaming.

Punjab’s progress in ISL 2023-24

Punjab FC are now at the ninth place in the points table with 21 points from 20 games. They have won five games, lost six and settled for a draw in nine outings. Their progression to the next stage of the league completely depends on their performance in the next two matches.

Both the teams from West Bengal, Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC are placed higher than Punjab in the table. While MBSG are at third, EBFC are at seventh place.

For Punjab FC, Luka Majcen has been the top goal-scorer so far in the season with seven goals to his name while Madih Talal leads the assists’ chart with a total of eight assists so far.
