Mohun Bagan are just inches away from claiming away ISL shield.

The first game of this week’s ISL Saturday double-header witnessed Chennaiyin FC clinch their second consecutive win and add three more points to their tally. The Marins Machans pulled off a hard fought 2-1 victory at the Marina Arena against Punjab FC. Jordan Wilmar Gil put the hosts ahead in the tie with his tenth goal of the season before Luka Majcen brought the game back on level terms. Daniel Chima Chukwu left it late and scored the winning goal in the 84th minute.

In the second game, Mohun Bagan continued their dominance in the ISL with a convincing 0-3 win against the Kerala Blasters in front of a jam-packed stadium. The Mariners ran riot dominated all areas and picked up their 15th win of the season. Jamie Maclaren’s brace combined with a goal from Alberto Rodriguez guided the visitors to a triumph. With this win, Bagan have set a new record for the most number of points in a single ISL season by any side (49).

A brief look at the points table

Mohun Bagan have added three more points to their tally and now lead the standings with 49 points in 21 games. FC Goa remained at the second position with 39 points from 20 games while the third position is held by Jamshedpur FC with 34 points from 20 games. NorthEast United FC stuck to the fourth position with 32 points in 21 games and Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City FC share the fifth and sixth spot respectively with 31 points in 20 games each.

Odisha FC remained at the seventh position with 29 points in 21 games. Kerala Blasters continued to sit at the eighth spot with 24 points in 20 outings. Punjab FC are still positioned ninth with 24 points in 20 games. Chennaiyin FC retained the tenth position with 24 points in 21 matches. East Bengal sit at the eleventh spot with 18 points from 19 games. Hyderabad FC have not moved from the twelfth spot with 16 points from 20 games. Mohammedan SC remained intact at the bottom of the table with eleven points in 19 matches.
