Mohun Bagan have qualified for their fifth consecutive ISL Playoffs after beating Punjab FC 3-0 in Kolkata

The eleventh season of the Indian Super League (ISL) is nearing the knockout stages with Mohun Bagan Super Giant becoming the first team to cement their place in the playoffs. Mohun Bagan are the favourites to win the Shield and will now also be contesting for the Cup.

Over the years, thirteen clubs have made it to the knockout stage to fight for the Cup. Here are the teams that have the most ISL playoff appearances to their name:

FC Goa – 7 playoff appearances

The Gaurs have been the most consistent team in the Indian Super League since its inception. As of today, FC Goa made it to the playoff on seven occasions. They have further made it to the finals twice but lost on both occasions.

In terms of silverware though, the Gaurs at least have a Shield to their name. They last qualified for the playoffs in the 2023-24 season and FC Goa will likely qualify again in the 2024-25 season.

Mohun Bagan – 5 playoff appearances

Having played as ATK Mohun Bagan and later Mohun Bagan Super Giant, the Mariners have had a lot of success in the ISL. As of ISL 2024-25, the Kolkata-based club have officially qualified for their fifth consecutive playoff.

In terms of silverware, Mohun Bagan have won the Shield and the Cup once and are favourites to win both trophies again. They lost the ISL Cup to Mumbai City twice in the finals.

Chennaiyin FC – 5 playoff appearances

Chennaiyin FC were the team to beat in the first few seasons of the ISL alongside ATK. However, the Southern giants are now a shell of their former selves with their supporters being desperate to get back to their glory days.

The Marina Machans have made it to the playoffs on five occasions, making it to the final thrice. Chennaiyin FC have won the Cup twice, beating FC Goa and Bengaluru FC for the title. Owen Coyle’s side last made the playoffs in the 2023-24 season but are likely to miss out this time around.

Mumbai City FC – 5 playoff appearances

The Islanders have had a lot of success as of late in the Indian Super League. Since 2020, Mumbai City have made it to the Final twice, winning the cup on both occasions. They have also registered the ISL Shield twice in their name.

In terms of playoffs, Mumbai City have made it to the knockout stage five times in ISL history. If Petr Kratky’s side makes it to the playoffs in the 2024-25 ISL season, it will be their sixth time.

Kerala Blasters – 5 playoff appearances

One of the most famous clubs globally, Kerala Blasters have made it to the playoffs on five occasions, with their latest appearance coming in the 2023-24 ISL season.

Three out of the five knockout appearances saw the Kerala Blasters make it to the ISL Final. However, they lost on all three occasions, twice to ATK and once to Hyderabad FC. Sadly, two of the three final losses for the Blasters were through penalty shootouts, to further rub salt in their wounds.
