Top five players with the most assists in ISL history

Indian Super League (ISL) is known to be a tough competition. It is a highly competitive league which houses sensational foreign and domestic football players. Making a goal contribution, a goal or an assist, is a major achievement, and some players, due to their quality, have made it a habit, despite the high level of competition.

Providing an assist is a crucial part of attacking play in football. It requires exceptional vision, passing accuracy, and positional awareness of teammates to become a goal provider. Thankfully, the Indian Super League has seen plenty of players over the years who fit the bill.

Looking at the history of the competition, here is a look at the top five players who have provided the most assists in its history:

Jerry Mawihmingthanga – 21 assists

Jerry Mawihmingthanga is an Indian Super League veteran and has been a consistent performer over the years. Despite struggling to find a regular spot in the Indian national team, the attacking winger has made key contributions for Odisha FC.

In terms of providing assists, Jerry has recorded 21 assists in the ISL from 122 appearances. The 27-year-old has made more than a century of appearances for Odisha FC alone. With several years left to play at the top level, he is likely to add more assists to his name in the ISL.

Brandon Fernandes – 21 assists

Brandon Fernandes has a reputation for being an expert playmaker and a creative powerhouse in the Indian Super League. He recently moved to Mumbai City FC after playing for several years at FC Goa where he made plenty of key goal contributions.

Brandon Fernandes also has 21 assists in the Indian Super League. He has made 92 appearances in the competition and is likely to feature at the top level for more years. Interestingly, as of 16 October 2024, Fernandes is yet to deliver an assist for the Islanders.

Ahmed Jahouh – 25 assists

Ahmed Jahouh is regarded as one of the best passers of the ball in the Indian Super League. Few players can outplay him in the department of creating goalscoring chances and delivering pinpoint passes from a deep-lying position in the midfield. 

Over the years, Ahmed Jahouh has featured for prominent Indian Super League outfits such as FC Goa, Mumbai City FC, and Odisha FC. In his 138 appearances in the league, the 36-year-old has recorded 25 assists. Due to his active role in the Odisha FC squad at the time of writing, the midfielder is likely to add more assists to his record.

Roy Krishna – 26 assists

Roy Krishna is regarded as one of the best foreign players to grace the Indian Super League. The striker has won the ISL with ATK in 2020 and played a key role in every team that he represented. He has made 111 appearances, at the time of writing, in the ISL wherein the forward has made 26 assists.

Roy Krishna’s age does not affect his performance levels. His current employer is Odisha FC where the striker has made several goal contributions both as a starter and from the bench.

Hugo Boumous – 35 assists

Hugo Boumous holds the record for providing the most assists in the history of the Indian Super League. The attacking midfielder’s quality is well known and his creativity is a huge asset to any team. Over the years, he has represented FC Goa, Mumbai City FC, ATK Mohun Bagan, and Odisha FC in the ISL, playing a key role at every club.

In 99 appearances of the ISL, at the time of writing, the attacking midfielder has recorded 35 assists in the competition. The 29-year-old provided three assists in his first four matches of the 2024-25 league campaign and is determined to extend his record number of assists in forthcoming matches.
