Many Indian players impressed in the ISL gameweek 19.

The Indian Super League (ISL) wrapped up its 19th gameweek with a goalless draw between Mumbai City FC and East Bengal FC in the city of dreams. The week began with Mohun Bagan settling scores with Bengaluru FC with a narrow 1-0 win in Kolkata followed by Jamshedpur FC’s dominant 2-1 win over Punjab FC away from home.

NorthEast United also returned to winning ways with a convincing 4-1 victory in front of a jam-packed stadium in Guwahati. Kerala Blasters hammered Chennaiyin FC 3-1 on Friday and kept their playoff aspirations alive. We are almost nearing the business end of the league with teams fighting for their individual objectives.

On that note, let us take a look at Khel Now’s team of the week for game week 19.

Formation: 4-4-2

GK – Vishal Kaith (Mohun Bagan SG)

Vishal Kaith continues to shine in between the sticks. He is the frontrunner for the Golden Glove with ten clean sheets in ISL. Vishal kept his tenth clean sheet this week and made five saves in the process. He made three saves from inside the box and one punch out as well. Kaith also recorded one clearance and helped Mohun Bagan pull off a crucial win against Bengaluru FC.

RB – Redeem Tlang (NorthEast United FC)

Redeem has been one of the most improved players under Juan Pedro Benali. He has emerged as the solution to NorthEast United’s woes at the right-back position and has replaced Dinesh Singh as the first choice right-back in ISL. He recorded five tackles along with one clearance, interception and block each. Tlang also executed two key passes with an accuracy of 95%.

CB – Pratik Chowdhary (Jamshedpur FC)

The centre-back was rock solid for Jamshedpur FC this week. He made six important clearances while recording two interceptions and one block. Chowdhary wasn’t dribbled past even once and won the majority of his aerial duels. He was fantastic in the air and also scored the opening goal through a header. Although it was a solid performance from him, he needs to work on his ball distribution.

CB – Asheer Akhtar (NorthEast United FC)

Asheer Akhtar scored a crucial goal and helped NorthEast United get all three points against Hyderabad FC. It was also his first goal of the season. Akhtar stood tall like a wall in the heart of the backline for the Highlanders. He made two clearances and tackles each along with one block. The 30-year-old won the majority of his ground duels and all of his aerial duels.

LB – Hmingthan Mawia (Mumbai City FC)

Valpuia has emerged as one of the finest full-backs in the league this season in ISL. He is spot-on with his ball distribution and pinpoint tackles. His ability to contribute on both ends of the pitch makes him an important asset for the Islanders. He recorded two clearances, one interception and one tackle each while completing 59/67 passes with an accuracy of 89%.

RM – Korou Singh (Kerala Blasters FC)

Korou has been one of the rising stars in ISL this season. He has earned a name for himself with his consistent and inspiring displays for the Kerala Blasters. Singh scored a goal this week and helped his side get all three points. Moreover, he was active on both ends of the pitch and made two tackles and clearances each along with one interception each.

CM – Adrian Luna (Kerala Blasters FC)

Adrian Luna continues to do what he does best. Luna inspired Kerala Blasters to a much-needed victory in the Southern derby with a couple of assists. The Uruguayan maestro looked sharp and was the point of difference between the two sides. He executed three key passes while maintaining a passing accuracy of 84%. Moreover, he also recorded two tackles and one interception.

CM – Javi Hernandez (Jamshedpur FC)

The Spanish midfielder has been one of the best players for Jamshedpur FC this season in ISL. He has been consistently dropping in match-winning performances and taking the Red Miners over the line single-handedly. Javi scored the winning goal for his side while winning the majority of his aerial and ground duels. He also made five clearances, two tackles and one interception during the game.

LM – Liston Colaco (Mohun Bagan SG)

Liston Colaco scored a banger from outside the box to win all three points in a tight encounter against Bengaluru FC. The Indian international took his chance on the first attempt and scored past Gurpreet Singh Sandhu with a ferocious strike. He recorded two shots on target while winning all of his aerial duels.

ST – Kwame Peprah (Kerala Blasters FC)

Kwame Peprah found the back of the net once as Kerala Blasters wrapped up an important win against Chennaiyin FC this week. The target man executed one key pass and also had a shot blocked. Peprah made a clearance and tackle each while winning the majority of his ground duels and maintaining a passing accuracy of nearly 80%.

ST – Alaeddine Ajaraie (NorthEast United FC)

The Moroccan forward scored his 16th goal of the season in ISL in an iconic fashion. Ajaraie unleashed a free kick from outside the box and found the back of the net to help NorthEast United get back to winning ways. Alaeddine missed one big chance while recording two shots on target and one blocked shot. He also executed a key pass.
