Khalid Jamil eyes a semi-final spot for the Red Miners with a win over his former side.

Jamshedpur FC will lock horns against NorthEast United FC in the upcoming quarter-final fixture in the Kalinga Super Cup. Though the Highlanders seem to have an upper hand, given their most recent 6-0 victory over Mohammedan SC, the Red Miners will be eager to get past Juan Pedro Benali’s side.

The Durand Cup 2025 has been nothing less than an entertaining extravaganza, with both the finalists from the last editions bowing out in the first round. This match promises to be nothing different as the two most promising sides seek to make it to the Durand Cup semi-finals.

The Stakes

NorthEast United FC

After securing two big wins against the Red Miners in the regular season, the Highlanders suffered a defeat in the ISL Knockout fixture in Shillong, which ended their campaign. They would now be keen to avenge their defeat against Khalid Jamil, as a potential semi-final spot will be up for grabs.

The Highlanders are coming after a 6-0 win over the Black Panthers, most recently in their Round of 16 fixture. ISL’s record goal scorer Alaaeddine Ajaraie will be a crucial player for North East as he scored a hat-trick in the last game.

Jamshedpur FC

Despite suffering two heavy defeats against the Highlanders, Khalid Jamil managed to get a win in the knockout fixture to propel themselves into the ISL semi-finals. The defensive duo of Stephen Eze and Lazar Cirkovic will be tasked with the responsibility of neutralising Ajaraie’s threat.

Jamshedpur FC would be eager to make it to their third consecutive Super Cup Semi-Finals by getting past the Highlanders. Goals from Javi Siverio and Stephen Eze were enough to seal a quarter-final spot for the Red Miners.

Team and Injury News

Jamshedpur FC will most likely field an all-fit and available squad in the upcoming game.

North East United FC, on the other hand, will also have no injury concerns.

Players to Watch Out:

Guillermo Fernandez (NorthEast United FC)

The 31-year-old Spaniard from Bilbao has plied his trade with the famous Athletic Bilbao outfit during his initial days before switching sides to Numancia and Burgos. After accumulating tons of experience in the Spanish footballing circuit, he made his arrival in India.

After joining NorthEast United FC, he has so far made 16 appearances for the Highlanders and scored 15 goals. With the opposition team eyeing to neutralise Ajaraie’s threat, Guillermo could emerge as a supporting striker with his finesse and finishing skills.

Albino Gomes (Jamshedpur FC)

Gomes had a tough time between the nets when the Highlanders last played against the Red Miners. He was beaten 8 times across 2 matches, and this time, he would be keen to clinch a clean sheet. Albino has made a record-breaking 104 saves so far in this ISL season.

With the game, most likely concluding in a statement in the first 90 minutes, Albino’s presence between the sticks would be a big blessing for the Red Miners if the match goes to a penalty. It would be interesting to see if Albino can keep the Highlanders quiet for the upcoming match.
