Biby Thomas Muttath has announced a balanced squad for the 78th edition of the trophy.
The Kerala football team under coach Biby Thomas Muttath has announced their squad for the 2024-2025 edition of Santosh Trophy. Kerala Police player Sanju G will lead the team as captain, with goalkeeper Hajmal S serving as vice-captain.
Following their elimination last year in the quarter-finals against Mizoram, Kerala will be determined to prove their mettle this time around. The Kerala squad has solidified its lineup with a mix of reliable goalkeepers, strong defenders, versatile midfielders, and capable forwards.
Kerala has a formidable squad
Looking at the options in goal, Muhammed Niyas K, Hajmal S, and Muhammed Azhar K will be tasked with safeguarding Kerala’s goal and will be supported by the defensive unit, led by captain Sanju G, and will include veterans like Manoj M, Muhammed Aslam, and Adil Amal. Coach Muttath will be hoping his experienced defensive combination will provide stability and resilience and garner results in the tournament.
Kerala boasts a range of talent in the midfield department with players like Arjun V, Christy Davis, and Mohammed Arshaf bringing skill and depth. The battle in the middle will be critical for Kerala to control the tempo of the game and create goal-scoring opportunities. Players like Naseeb Rahman and Salman Kalliyath will add much-needed steel to the heart of the field. On paper, Kerala’s stronghold over other teams is their midfield which will play pivotal in any title-winning ambitions.
Kerala also has included forwards Gani Nigam, Muhammed Ajsal, and Sajeesh E to reinforce their goal-scoring department. Cohesion and finishing will be on the agenda for Kerala’s attackers as they look to convert chances and clinch Kerala’s eighth Santosh Trophy title.
