One of the most decorated teams in the history of the Santosh Trophy, the Maharashtra football team has a legacy that precedes its current challenges. With 15 final appearances and four championships to their name, the team has been a dominant force in Indian football’s prestigious inter-state competition.

Their last triumph, however, dates back to the 1999-2000 edition, leaving them yearning for a title in the 21st century. Last season, Maharashtra showcased impressive form in the group stages, finishing atop Group F with a flawless record of five wins in as many matches, brushing aside teams like Telangana, Lakshadweep, Tripura, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Andhra Pradesh.

Despite this stellar start, their campaign faltered in the knockout group stage, where they managed just two wins in five games, placing them second from the bottom. For the upcoming 2024-25 season, the team is determined to reclaim its supremacy and add a long-awaited trophy to its storied history.

Maharashtra, formerly known as the Bombay football team, is placed in Group I this year, alongside Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Daman & Diu.

Their campaign begins on November 16 against Rajasthan, with their final group stage match slated against Gujarat.
