From Amiya Deb, who scored the first hat trick in 1934 against East Bengal then slowly but steadily Asit Ganguly, Bhaichung Bhutia, Chidi Edeh, and Kiyan Nassiri has placed their names in the list who have scored a hat trick for their team in a Kolkata Derby.
East Bengal FC’s Edmund Lalrindika is the latest addition to the list as he joined the elite list after scoring three goals against Mohun Bagan in the Durand Cup 2026 Final game on 23rd august, 2026, registering the performance in the first 45 minutes and delivering a sensational performance.
Edmund is the second East Bengal FC player to do this historical thing after Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia, who was the first Red & Gold player to score a hat trick in a Kolkata Derby in the 1997 Federation Cup Semi-Final as East Bengal FC won the game 4-1.

Amiya Deb – 1934

The first hat trick came very early in the prestigious Kolkata Derby, which happened in the Darbhanga Shield, a regional-based football tournament in British India, patronised by the Maharaja of Darbhanga, starting in 1924.
And in this competition, for Mohun Bagan, Amiya Deb scored a four-goal show to clinch the victory against East Bengal FC, as he was the first player ever to score a hat trick in the Kolkata Derby. Asit Ganguly – 1937
The same month of August in 1937, when another Green & Maroon player had scored a hat trick in the Kolkata Derby, but in the Raja Shield Final, which was happening for the first time, Mohun Bagan pulled a great victory over East Bengal FC relying on Asit Ganguly’s three goals as the Mariners won the game 4-0.
Bhaichung Bhutia – 1997
The first East Bengal player to score a hat-trick against Mohun Bagan in the Kolkata Derby as it carried a significant feat in modern football because the game changed the fate of the Red & Gold Brigade. In the 1997 Federation Cup semi-final game, East Bengal FC forward Bhaichung Bhutia bagged a hat-trick against the Mariners and in front of a huge fanbase at the Salt Lake Stadium, it remains one of the most memorable Derbies in Indian football history.
Bhaichung Bhutia scored the first with a brilliant header from the corner and then the second goal was a pure brilliance as he dribbled two defenders and also the goalkeeper and slotted the goal into the back of the net. And he completed his hat trick with individual brilliance.
He was the pioneer of the Torchbearers to lift the head up in a match like the Kolkata Derby, and now, after so long, Edmund Lalrindika made his name in the second position.
Chidi Edeh – 2009
Chidi Edeh the Mohun Bagan player scored a well deserved hat trick against East Bengal in 2009 as the game listed his name into the list of players who have scored in Kolkata Derby. He has delivered an extraordinary performance against the Red and Gold Brigade as his performance is remembered as one of the most devastating individual displays in the Derby.
Playing for Mohun Bagan, Chidi Edeh scored four goals against East Bengal where the Mariners thrashed the opponents 5-3 in an I-League encounter on 25th October, 2009.
Kiyan Nassiri – 2022
Kiyan Nassiri who is currently not in the squad of Mohun Bagan but he once played for them when he scored a hat-trick trick to become the fourth Bagan star to feature in a Kolkata Derby and score a hat-trick trick. In January, 2022 Kiyan Nassiri etched his name in the Derby legacy book after he had achieved that and became the first player in the ISL edition to score three goals.
Coming off the bench in 2022 a young Kiyan scored three times for Mohun Bagan to defeat East Bengal 3-1 in an ISL encounter as he announced his arrival in style and netted the first goal in the 64th minute and the rest of the two in the stoppage time.
Edmund Lalrindika – 2026
Edmund Lalrindika became the second East Bengal player to join the elite list of players who have featured in a Kolkata Derby and registered a hat trick for their respective sides, as in the Durand Cup 2026 Final against Mohun Bagan, the Mizo-born forward, Edmund, scored thrice to help the Red & Gold to lift their 17th Durand Cup title.
In 12 minutes of the game, a blistering run witnessed by Edmund Lalrindika inspired the second goal of the Red & Gold side as a shot from 20-25yards bagged the Mariners’ net as Vishal Kaith couldn’t match the ball’s speed. And just 10 minutes later, a goal for the ages for East Bengal FC Edmund Lalrindika bagged a brilliant piece of art with a pass from Dani Ramirez as he got the lateral pass in the D-box and dribbled past two or three defenders and also toyed with Vishal Kaith to register the third goal for the ISL 2025-26 champions. And the hat trick came in the 44th minute.
