The GMC Bambolim Stadium in Goa gears up to host the season opener of the AIFF Super Cup between former champions East Bengal FC and five-time I-League champions, Dempo SC on Saturday (25 October 2025).

Both sides carry India’s rich old footballing legacy and will be keen to redeem their old golden days in the upcoming edition of the AIFF Super Cup 2025.

East Bengal FC are led by Spanish gaffer Oscar Bruzon, who has tremendous experience coaching across the Indian subcontinent, including his stints with Sporting Clube de Goa, Mumbai FC and Mumbai City previously. Under Bruzon, East Bengal reached the IFA Shield finals and the semi-finals of the Durand Cup 2025.

Goa-based Dempo SC, also popularly referred to as the Golden Eagles, did well to finish sixth last season after getting promoted from the third division. Founded in 1961, Dempo has represented India several times in AFC competitions. The Goan outfit will have a slight home advantage, playing their group games in Goa.

East Bengal are one of the favourites to top Group A

The Bengal Brigade are one of the favourites, not just to top Group A, but also win the AIFF Super Cup. Amidst the delay in ISL, many clubs delayed their pre-season and have been out of action for a longer period of time.

East Bengal, on the other hand, fielded a complete squad in the Durand Cup. They even managed to beat arch rivals Mohun Bagan in the all exciting Kolkata derby in the Quarter Finals, before Diamond Harbours shocked them in the semi finals.

They even made it to the IFA Shield Finals. Under Bruzon, the team has done well to excel in high pressure knockout games, and the former Mallorca assistant coach will be keen to carry forward the momentum. They have assembled an excellent foreign unit, including Md Rashid, Miguel Figueira, Hamid Ahadad and others.
