Indian Football Transfers: Jessel extends, Coyle in talks with Jamshedpur
Couple of ISL clubs have been linked with some top coaches in the past week.
Clubs are moving ahead seamlessly in acquiring their targeted players in the market. In the last seven days, Indian football has witnessed several crucial transfers happening.
The bigwigs and the usual suspects chose to remain a bit subdued whereas other clubs rose to the occasion to make their required signings. I-League clubs were equally involved in making transfer moves in the past week and without further ado, let us get into the deeper details of the same.
Jamshedpur FC
Owen Coyle
It is not unknown now that Jamshedpur FC are in search of a new head coach. And few days ago, Khel Now disclosed that they are in advanced talks with Chennaiyin FC gaffer Owen Coyle. After finishing at the eighth spot in the league table in 2019-20, the Men of Steel are looking for someone who can spark a turnaround in their fortunes.
Hence, Coyle seems to be the appropriate fit for the role considering his brilliant exploits with the Marina Machans in the previous campaign. However, it has also been understood that the club is in talks with several other coaches and it remains to be seen whether they rope in the Scotsman.
NorthEast United FC
John Gregory
NorthEast United FC are in talks to sign former ISL-winning head coach John Gregory for the upcoming 2020-21 season, Khel Now understands. The Highlanders finished at a lowly ninth place in the last campaign.
The then coach Robert Jarni was sacked in February 2019-20 and then Khalid Jamil took over on interim basis for the last three matches. Currently, the club is in talks with both Gregory as well as former Mumbai City FC gaffer Jorge Costa. However, the latter’s salary demands are way too high for NorthEast United and that can be the decisive factor behind choosing one between Gregory or Costa.
Odisha FC
Ravi Kumar
Odisha FC have roped in goalkeeper Ravi Kumar from Mumbai City FC. The 27-year-old was a backup to Amrinder Singh in the last campaign and didn’t attain much game-time during his stint with the Islanders.
On the other hand, the Juggernauts have the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Kamaljit Singh on the roster and the former Sporting Goa player will look to get more opportunities to represent his new club.
Kerala Blasters
Jessel Carneiro
Left-back Jessel Carneiro has penned a new three-year deal with Kerala Blasters. The 29-year-old was one of the better performers under Eelco Schattorie last season and the club has swiftly secured his services at least until 2023.
Carneiro made an instant impact in the ISL in 2019-20, assisting five goals and putting up solid defensive performances in 18 matches. His contract extension is one of the positive updates for the fans of Kerala Blasters in the off-season.
Real Kashmir FC
Dipanda Dicka
Real Kashmir FC have lured in striker Dipanda Dicka on a one-year contract from Punjab FC, a source close to the developments told Khel Now. Dicka has the reputation of being an efficient goalscorer. He put the ball into the back of the net on 12 occasions in 16 matches for Punjab FC in the previous I-League campaign. The Cameroonian can assist the Snow Leopards in bettering their fourth-place finish in the league in 2019-20.
Mithun Samanta
Tiddim Road Athletic Union (TRAU) custodian Mithun Samanta has also reportedly joined Real Kashmir FC. The 28-year-old played 11 I-League matches in the previous term and maintained three clean sheets. He conceded merely 12 goals in those games and could arguably become a solid alternative in the goalkeeping position for the Snow Leopards in the coming season.
TRAU FC
TRAU FC have been very active in the transfer market in the last one week. Mostly, they have been signing up young players with little experience with the motive of honing their skills and providing them ample playing time.
Seiminmang Manchong
The club recently roped in forward Seiminmang Manchong from Odisha FC. Manchong has been formerly associated with TRAU FC but later represented Delhi Dynamos in the 2018-19 season. With Odisha, Manchong played only 86 minutes in four ISL matches in 2019-20 and hence would be keen to prove his mettle at his former club.
Naresh Singh
Furthermore, TRAU FC have lured in 22-year-old right-back Naresh Singh from the reserves side of Jamshedpur FC.
Naresh has made 21 appearances in the second division of the I-League in the last three seasons for the 'Men of Steel.' In their official announcement, his new club remarked, “As many of our defenders have been scouted by ISL teams, we are doing our level best to scout the best defenders.” It will be interesting to notice the full-back’s ability to adapt to the senior level of football with TRAU FC.
Nongthombam Ronaldo Singh
Further, the club also announced that they have signed Nongthombam Ronaldo Singh on a two-year contract from NEROCA FC. The player was scouted by TRAU FC during an U-18 I-League match between the two Manipur-based clubs in Imphal. The 20-year-old might attain more information of his footballing prowess when he turns up for his new team in the I-League next season.
