Preparations are already underway to ensure Kerala's representation on global stage, says Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman
Abdurahiman believes the results may take time, but the trajectory is promising.
Kerala’s Minister V. Abdurahiman recently outlined an ambitious vision for the state’s sports sector in an interview with KhelNow TV. The roadmap emphasizes infrastructure development, talent scouting, and a collaborative approach to propel Kerala to the forefront of Indian sports, and even rival certain European countries in basic infrastructure within a decade. The Minister’s comments shed light on Kerala’s roadmap and methods for developing a thriving sports economy.
Building a Strong Foundation
Minister Abdurahiman sees improved infrastructure as the cornerstone of this plan. “Anticipated advancements in infrastructure will catalyze the emergence of new sporting talents,” he remarked, highlighting the government’s commitment to providing world-class facilities.
This focus extends to the international stage, with Kerala aiming to provide athletes with the tools they need to compete at the highest level. “Preparations are already underway to ensure Kerala’s representation on the global stage, with an eye on the Olympics,” he revealed. The Minister expressed optimism that Kerala athletes will not only compete but excel, especially if India hosts the Olympics someday.
Shifting Gears: Public-Private Collaboration
A significant change in Kerala’s sports landscape is the increased involvement of the private sector. Minister Abdurahiman acknowledged this shift, stating, “Increased private sector investment marks a notable shift from previous practices.” This collaboration, along with continued government support, is seen as a recipe for success. “The sports department of Kerala has high hopes regarding the forthcoming developments,” he shared.
