[WATCH] Kipgen scores incredible goal as Punjab FC defeat Everton FC in Next Generation Cup 2024

Kipgen stole headlines with another exquisite finish in the Next Generation Cup.

Manglengthang Kipgen notched another beautiful goal as he helped Punjab FC to a historic 2-1 win against Everton FC in the Next Generation Cup 2024. The winger raced onto a through ball and sniffed out the Toffees’ out-of-position goalkeeper as he scored Punjab’s leveler with a captivating chip.

Imagine Griezmann-esque confidence and composure as the Frenchman scored in FC Barcelona‘s 4-1 win away to Villareal in 2020. Kipgen pulled a replica of that skill out of his locker and shocked everyone present at the match.

The youngster has drawn praise from all coaches in every performance at the tournament so far and seems to have elevated the form he showcased en route to the SAFF U19 Championship trophy last year. Equally gifted teammates of course accompanied him.

Players like Muhammad Suhail, Usham Singh and Omang Dodum were all impressed as the former two combined exquisitely to confuse the entire defence and score Punjab’s winner. Omang scored in the previous match against Aston Villa and has been leading his side on the offense.

Suhail on the other hand is a traditional left-footed left winger who drifts inwards from the left channel and can terrorise the opposition with his quick turns and effective dribbling. Usham is a similar player but not as lanky as Suhail. However, the lethal attacker uses his diminutive stature to his advantage as he harbors a lower centre of gravity.

Goalkeeper Aayush Deshwal also turned his fate around as he helped his team get that all-important extra point from the shootout. While he was lucky on one occasion, the goal custodian made an outstanding stretch to deny an Everton player as the final score finished at 4-3 in favor of the Shers. 

Coach Sankarlal Chakraborty spoke at length about the winning formula that the team has polished and implemented over the matches. He also mentioned how important exposure to such a competition and the varying youth setups is for the upcoming players in the nation.
