The season saw a number of young players enter the record books.
The Indian Super League has provided many records in the past. A few notable mentions can be of David James appearing as the oldest footballer. Or even that of Alfred Lalroutsang who was only 16 when he played for NorthEast United against Hyderabad in February 2020.
In this article, we will look forward to five records created this season.
5. New all-time top scorer
A record which remained unchanged for the past season (2020/21) has been shattered. Ferran Corominas was labelled as the all-time top scorer of the ISL with 48 goals.
This season, Bartholomew Ogbeche broke his record and is currently the top scorer with 53 goals to his name. Behind him is India and Bengaluru FC captain Sunil Chhetri with 51 goals.
4. SC East Bengal end bottom of table with one win
People across the country can hardly remember a time when SC East Bengal ended at the bottom of the table. But, such a feat has occurred for the a 102-year-old club.
The record is that they salvaged just one victory in the entire campaign. Previously, other bottom-placed teams had won either two or more matches. The solitary victory of SC East Bengal came against FC Goa (2-1) on 19 January, 2022.
3. Record transfer fee for Indian player
The summer transfer window saw ATK Mohun Bagan secure the services of young, promising Indian forward Liston Colaco from Hyderabad FC. The then 22-year-old still had a year left on his contract.
However, by paying a record transfer fee, the Mariners brought in Colaco in order to further bolster their squad for the Indian Super League 2021-22. The official statement from Hyderabad FC read, “With a focus on long-term sustainability, Hyderabad FC agreed for Liston’s move in a deal that fetches the highest-ever transfer fee received for an Indian player.”
2. Youngest Golden Glove winner
At the age of 21, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill became the youngest recipient of the Golden Glove award. Initially, Kerala Blasters didn't consider him as the first-choice keeper.
But, after Albino Gomes suffered an injury against Odisha FC on 5 December, 2021, Gill entered the show. Subsequently, he went on to register seven-clean sheets in 20 appearances.
1. Youngest hat-trick scorer in ISL history
On 29 January, 2022, after netting three brilliant goals against SC East Bengal in the Kolkata Derby, Kiyan Nassiri became the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the history of the Indian Super League. Indeed, after Bhaichung Bhutia, Nassiri is the second-youngest player to score a hat-trick in the Kolkata Derby!
