Inter Miami provide positive update on German Berterame after head injury vs CF Montreal

The Herons secured a 1-0 win against CF Montreal.

Led by Guillermo Hoyos, Inter Miami travelled away from home for their round 17 contest of the Major League Soccer (MLS) 2026 against CF Montreal. This clash took place at the Saputo Stadium.

Even though the Herons eventually secured a 1-0 victory, things became quite tense on the field. During the 70th minute, Montreal defender Efrain Morales came up with a strong tackle. He was contesting for the ball with German Berterame.

The Inter Miami forward instantly went down on the ground after Morales’ shoulder came in contact with the back of his head.

The game was stopped for a brief amount of time before being resumed. Physicians made their way on the pitch in an instant. Moments later, an ambulance entered the ground, which took Berterame to a hospital.

By the looks of it, the 27-year-old lost consciousness after the strong impact.

German Berterame injury update

Inter Miami and Guillermo Hoyos have just dropped an update regarding German Berterame’s injury.

“He is conscious and his family is aware of everything and is calm. The most important thing is that he is okay, and he is okay now.

“It shook us all because we really didn’t know what to do. It was a moment of great desperation and deep sadness, because it went beyond the result, the football, and all that; it’s about human life, that’s what matters most. So, we just hope everything turns out well,” said Hoyos.

Inter Miami’s head coach also mentioned that Berterame is still undergoing tests after the head injury during the match.

The clash resumed after the pause. Luis Suarez stepped up to score a ‘Penenka’ penalty. He dedicated the goal to German Berterame, who got injured during the match.

Casemiro also made his debut for the Herons. He failed to make an impact on his MLS debut.
