Deshorn Brown extends stay with NorthEast United

The striker scored five goals for the Highlanders last season.
NorthEast United have retained the services of Jamaican target man Deshorn Brown ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League season, Khel Now can confirm.
“NorthEast United and Deshorn Brown have agreed a one-year contract extension. The player had offers from overseas, but he chose to remain in the ISL with the Highlanders,” a source close to the developments told Khel Now.

Deshorn Brown’s football journey
Deshorn started his career with American side Des Moines Menace in 2011, where he scored nine goals in 10 matches. The following year he moved to Reading United and maintained his goalscoring prowess by scoring 13 goals in as many games.
In 2013, Brown joined Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit Colorado Rapids. In his debut season, Brown scored 10 goals and won the Rapids Golden Boot award for his feat . He also finished second behind teammate Dillon Powers for MLS Rookie of the Year. Brown also holds the record for the third-fastest goal in MLS history, after netting inside the opening 15 seconds in a massive win over Seattle.
The Jamaican joined Norwegian side Valerenga in 2015, where he scored 13 goals in 37 matches. A year later, Brown was sold to China League One club Shenzhen for $1.2m. He scored a hat-trick on his debut against Shanghai Shenxin to announce his arrival. He has also featured for American outfits Tampa Bay Rowdies and D.C. United.
In 2018, Brown moved to Spain and signed for Lorca FC. He featured in 12 matches for them and also scored a goal. After a short stint in Spain, Brown moved back to the United States and joined USL side OKC Energy FC. In the winter transfer window of the 2019-20 season, Brown signed for then reigning ISL champions Bengaluru FC. He signed an 18-month deal with the Blues and scored three goals in 17 appearances.
After mutually parting ways with Bengaluru FC in January 2021, the 30-year-old joined NorthEast United. Brown made his debut by coming on as a second half substitute in the Highlanders' 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC. He scored the second goal in that game. In 10 matches, Brown found the back of the net five times and helped his team achieve their best-ever finish in the league table.

NorthEast United’s pre-season preparations
The Highlanders have already signed Spanish midfielder Hernan Santana and Sehnaj Singh. NorthEast United have also extended the contracts of Khassa Camara and Provat Lakra, as reported earlier by Khel Now. They have also retained multiple players from last season including VP Suhair, Subhasish Roy Chowdhury among others.
The club has also signed Joe Zoherliana, Jestin George, Mathias Coureur and Mohammed Irshad under the guidance of Khalid Jamil, who is set to continue as head coach.
