“NorthEast United are set to complete the signing of Jon Gaztanaga on a one-year deal. The Spaniard is expected to land in Guwahati to team up with the rest of the squad very soon,” a source close to developments told Khel Now.

He was with the main team for quite some time and even made eight appearances for them in the La Liga and one in the highly coveted UEFA Champions League (UCL). During his time with the white and blues, Jon was loaned out to Segunda División club SD Ponferradina in 2015.

He played 12 games for the club before being loaned out to La Liga 2 side CD Numancia in the same year. The 31-year-old played 34 matches for the club before returning to his parent club to see out the final year of his contract.

In 2017, Jon signed a three-year deal with Gimnàstic de Tarragona as a free agent. But, after just one season and 28 games, the Andoain-born midfielder terminated his contract with the club. Following his departure from Nastic, Gazatanaga moved out of Spain for the very first time.

The player then made a switch to the Romanian side Viitorul. Jon played just 19 games for the Romanian first division club before returning to Spain in 2021.

He came back to his native country and joined third division side Cultural Leonesa. Jon featured in 29 matches and scored three goals for Leonesa.
