The goalkeeper reunites with Khalid Jamil after winning the I-League with Aizawl FC together.

As revealed exclusively earlier today by Khel Now, Sreekuttan VS is set to sign for Jamshedpur FC, and Rei Tachikawa & Seiminlen Doungel are set to extend their contracts with the club. The news continues for Jamshedpur FC, as the club are now set to sign a new goalkeeper for the ISL 2024-25 season.

Albino Gomes, who won a magical I-League title with Aizawl FC in the 2016-17 season under Khalid Jamil, is set to reunite with Jamil at Jamshedpur FC. The club are prepared to pay an undisclosed transfer fee to Sreenidi Deccan for Gomes’ services.

“Jamshedpur FC are looking for a new No. 1 for next season. The club have agreed on a transfer fee with I-League club Sreenidi Deccan and personal terms with Albino Gomes. Paperwork will be completed in the upcoming days,” a source tracking Jamshedpur FC’s transfer business told Khel Now.

Albino Gomes suffered a serious injury in December 2021 while playing for Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League, causing him to miss action for the next 10 months. This setback eventually forced him to drop to the I-League to prove his fitness. He signed for Churchill Brothers for the I-League 2022-23 season, where he played 17 matches. This performance helped him join Sreenidi Deccan on a two-year deal before the start of the 2023-24 season.

In the following season with Sreenidi Deccan, Gomes played 18 I-League games and kept seven clean-sheets, putting him back on the radar of various ISL teams.

Khalid Jamil has a lot of trust in Albino Gomes. When the opportunity arose to bring Gomes back to the ISL, Jamil gave the club the green light to sign him. The 30-year-old goalkeeper from Goa, with 99 appearances in Indian football, will also provide valuable experience to Jamshedpur FC both on and off the pitch.

Jamshedpur FC’s preparations for ISL 2024-25 season

With the busiest-ever Indian football calendar ahead, the club are slated to play in the Durand Cup, the Indian Super League and the Super Cup. The club’s pre-season camp is tentatively expected to begin in July. With Sreekuttan VS signing from Gokulam Kerala, Albino Gomes signing from Sreenidi Deccan and now key players Rei Tachikawa and Seiminlen Doungel signing contract extensions, Jamshedpur FC’s preparations for the next season are on the right track.
