The former France striker refused to take back his taunt at Olivier Giroud.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema showcased his refusal to retrieve his jibe at Olivier Giroud following the incident where the striker rubbished comparisons between himself and his fellow French striker and teased him during an Instagram Live session.

Speaking to fans and taking their questions, when asked to compare between himself and Giroud, Karim Benzema replied "Don't confuse Formula 1 with karting," taking aim at Olivier Giroud's on-pitch abilities.

Following the incident, Benzema boldly weighed in on his opinion saying he "simply told the truth" and that the same can be considered if the comparison was between him and Ronaldo (Nazario).

"About Giroud, I simply told the truth. But we didn't remember what I said about him, especially about what he brings to the French national team. We just remembered the moment when I said I was F1 and he was karting. That's what I think, that's the truth, and that's how it is," replied Karim before adding "Because now, if you ask me with R9 (Ronaldo): R9 is F1, and I am karting. That's the way it is. We're going to move on."

Benzema represented France in 81 appearances including the 2014 World Cup, scoring 27 goals but was banned from the national team by coach Didier Deschamps due to his alleged involvement in a harassment case. In his absence, Olivier Giroud has stepped up to score 39 goals in 97 matches for Les Bleus and is currently the third-highest goalscorer for his nation. Giroud won the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup despite a lack of performance from him where he didn't find the back of the net at all.

This season, Karim Benzema has once again been consistent for Real Madrid by scoring 19 goals in 34 matches across all competitions. Giroud, on the other hand, is still continuing to find a place on the bench.
