Man United are unlikely to bring back Greenwood from his loan spell

Scouts are keeping an eye on Mason Greenwood’s performances at Getafe as Premier League clubs saw him score a spectacular goal for the Spanish team on Saturday.

After an internal club inquiry regarding his behaviour, Greenwood signed a loan to play for the LaLiga team from Manchester United in August.

It happened after the striker’s detention a year earlier when accusations of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control were dismissed in February.

After spending 18 months off the pitch, Greenwood joined Getafe on a season-long loan deal and has already made 11 appearances for his new club.

He netted his fourth goal of this campaign on Saturday in a 2-1 victory over Almeria, a brilliant effort that came from outside the area.

Greenwood is content in Getafe, with four goals and three assists for his new team.

His for a long time status is still up in the air because, according to AS, scouts from Premier League teams have been consistently there to observe his exploits this season, especially on Saturday.

Getafe may encounter opposition in their attempt to keep Greenwood with the team for at least another year.

Premier League teams showed no interest in signing Greenwood throughout the summer transfer window, but it was rumoured that at least two Championship teams had initial talks with him before deciding not to pursue their curiosity further. Clubs from Turkey and Italy were also involved in the transfer.

The Spanish media declared Greenwood’s goal over the weekend to be an option for the goal of the campaign.

His manager Jose Bordalas said: ‘We have been working with Mason since he arrived, with a lot of patience, working on timing. You all know that he has not played for two years.

‘There has been a very big deficit and he is recovering with the help of everyone. The credit belongs to everyone.

‘It was a great goal, we know the quality he has. He is not yet at his best level. I am very happy because he has integrated phenomenally. I congratulate his teammates who have helped him a lot.’
