Punjab FC rope in Inter Kashi defender Bijoy Varghese on multi-year deal

Bijoy Varghese had joined Inter Kashi earlier from Kerala Blasters.

Indian Super League (ISL) outfit Punjab FC has begun strengthening their squad for the upcoming season, starting with improvement in their defensive unit and one of their first signings has been Bijoy Varghese on a multi-year deal. The defender showed a strong and consistent performance in the I-League.

The defender has signed for Punjab FC after a great individual campaign in the I-League, showing consistent and strong performances with Inter Kashi. Having proven his capabilities at that level, this move signifies his comeback to the Indian Super League (ISL).

A look at Bijoy Varghese’s career

Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Bijoy Varghese began his football journey in his school days, His early performances saw him join the Youth team of Kovalam FC. By 2018, He was a key part of the Kerala Team that reached the finals of the International School Championship, where he won the Best Defender award. Bijoy also played for the Sports Authority of India’s football team in the Youth League.

In 2021, Bijoy joined the Kerala Blasters FC’s reserve team in the Kerala Premier League. His reliable performances in the KPL helped him get a call-up to the senior team camp. He finally secured a place in the final squad for the ISL Season 2021-22. He made his senior team debut during the 2021 Durand Cup and featured in five matches during that ISL season.

After his time with Kerala Blasters FC, Bijoy Varghese then signed for Inter Kashi. In the recent season, he made a total of 12 appearances for the club, showing his consistency and proving to be a valuable addition to the squad.
