These teams need to immediately bolster their squad in order to salvage their season.
The upcoming January transfer window will be a great opportunity for football teams to add players to their roster. It provides a great way of reinforcing the squad in order to achieve the objectives. Although the January transfer window does not see major deals, the 2022 window could see many teams making a move. There are clubs out there which are struggling in their respective leagues and need fresh energy.
They need new players owing to managerial changes and the present scenario in their respective competitions. The transfer window will provide a way of getting their plans back on track after a disappointing start to the season. The following five clubs need to make transfers in particular because of their present situations, which needs to change.
Adding better players to the squad will have a positive impact on their performances. Keeping that thought in mind, let us take a look at the top five clubs that desperately need to sign players in the January transfer window.
5. Newcastle United
The Magpies became the richest club in the world when their takeover was complete earlier in 2021. A consortium led by the PIF of Saudi Arabia took over the club. Newcastle have big ambitions and needs players to fulfil them. The arrival of Eddie Howe was the first step in that direction.
The Magpies need key additions in each department of the team. Some of the players they have been linked to include Jesse Lingard, Phillipe Coutinho and James Tarkowski. Newcastle United is struggling to rise in the league standings and find themselves in the relegation battle. New additions in the January transfer window are a must in order to avoid the drop.
4. Tottenham Hotspur
The London-based club appointed Antonio Conte as manager during the first phase of the season. The arrival of the former Inter Milan tactician means the club will make moves in the market to his liking. Reportedly, the club will back Conte with a huge transfer budget to spend in the January window. It is imperative for the club to finish inside the top-four for financial and sporting reasons.
Harry Kane’s imminent departure and his dwindling form mean that the club needs a backup option in the striker’s role. Stefan de Vrij and Franck Kessie are two players who could join the club in the January transfer window. Conte became aware of the lack of quality in the Spurs’ squad after the loss to NS Mura in the UEFA Conference League. The tactician feels the need to immediately add more quality to the team in order to compete with the other top-six clubs in the Premier League.
3. Manchester United
The Red Devils are another side that went through a managerial change. The outfit has replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Ralf Rangnick, who has taken over as the interim manager. Due to poor results, the Norwegian lost his position and there could be many changes to the squad which has not performed to the standards expected of them.
Potential departures of players like Martial and Cavani to Sevilla and FC Barcelona respectively will compel the team to make their own moves. Recently, players like Boubacar Kamara and Julian Alvarez were linked with moves to the club. The Red Devils need to recruit in the January transfer window order to compete for the top-four places in the league and go further in the UEFA Champions League.
2. Juventus
The Bianconeri needs immediate recruitment due to their shambolic form in Serie A. The Italian giants are struggling to keep up with the pace of the competition. Due to their inconsistent performances, the club finds itself in the fifth place after 19 games of the campaign. Their attacking department is massively underperforming and a new addition of a striker is a desperate need.
One of the players that the club can sign is Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang who is likely to leave Arsenal. The Gabonese striker has previous experience of playing in Italy and will immediately upgrade their striking options.
1. FC Barcelona
The La Liga giants has had a season to forget until now. Their disappointing start of the campaign saw Ronald Koeman lose his position as manager of the club. The Dutch tactician was replaced by Xavi as the manager and the Spaniard will need to stabilise the performances and improve the squad. The Blaugrana are a club in transition and still recovering from the departure of Lionel Messi.
The squad is inexperienced and suffering from setbacks like Sergio Aguero’s untimely retirement. FC Barcelona needs a striker immediately and Anthony Martial is one of the names linked with a move. Edinson Cavani is another figure that the club will try to acquire in the January transfer window from Manchester United.
