Liverpool reached an agreement on a ÂŁ30 million deal for Genk custodian Lucca Brughmans, who is scheduled to have a medical ahead of a potential move in 2027.
Brughmans surfaced as a surprising contender for Liverpool on Sunday, while Nottingham Forest enquired about Giorgi Mamardashvili’s availability.
As things stand, Brughmans is set to join in 2027 while finishing the season with his present team, but that might change based on Mamardashvili’s circumstances.
Brughmans, on the other hand, would join as a far less experienced goalkeeper, having turned 18 in June and appearing in only 15 senior games. It was a surprising signing, but the goalie has a high ceiling and could be their next future custodian in the upcoming years.

Lucca Brughmans, who has an intimidating physical appearance reminiscent of his hero Thibaut Courtois, is widely considered one of Europe’s best rising goalkeepers.
He progressed through Genk’s famed youth system, sporting the same No. 28 shirt that Thibaut Courtois did while at the club.
He made his professional debut with Jong Genk at the age of 16 in January 2025. He was promoted to the first team late in the 2025-26 campaign and started all ten of Genk’s Pro League play-off games.
Brughmans has served as a significant element in Belgium’s youth setup. He led the Belgium U-17 national team in both the Under-17 European Championship and the Under-17 World Cup, and he has now moved on to head the U-18 and U-19 teams.

Brughmans, who is 6’7″, controls his penalty area with tremendous aerial mastery and reach. He mixes his massive height with excellent reflexes and poise, which allows him to keep a clean sheet as recently as Genk’s 4-0 win over SK Beveren.
